We've stayed in the Hali many times and tend to use it because of its excellent location and reasonable rates. Over the years the view of the Blue Mosque from the top terrace has gradually been obscured by the hotels opposite and now only the dome and tops of its minarets are visible despite the impression given on the hotel's website. However, the rest of the panorama featuring Aya Sophia is quite simply stunning, especially in the afternoon sunshine. The rooms are on the small size but adequate, with basic furniture. Bathrooms vary from surprisingly large to very (very) small. The rooms are clean and our towels were changed every day. The buffet breakfast is Turkish rather than Continental and will set you up for a hard day's sightseeing (but avoid the awful fruit juice). Our only problem during our recent stay was the failure of the hotel's hot water system on three consecutive mornings and one evening. The reception staff didn't deal with this at all well and became grumpy and offhand and the hotel management took far too long to sort it out. That said, whilst it may be a bit basic and only just scrapes a 4 rating, the Hali is an undeniably good base for exploring Istanbul at a competitive price.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front, on the upper floors for an (almost) unbeatable view.

Hali Hotels most exiting feature is definitely the exellent view from the roof balcony, where you can eat a fresh and tasty breakfast while overlooking the Bosporus, Ayasofya and the Blue Mosque. Watching the sunset over the roofs of this vivid old town having a glass of wine is worth a fortune. Though it is not at all a luxury hotel, the rooms and bathrooms are clean and comfortable, the staff most amiable and helpful. The hotels location ist perfect to dive right into the heart of the city, the Sultanahmet tramway station just around the corner. All in all I will definitely return to Hali Hotel, as the price is also very reasonable.
A fascinating fact I stumbled over on my last day in Istanbul: Right under the little park in front of the hotel lies a huge cistern (Cistern of the 1001 Columns) built in the 6th Century!

Room Tip: To enjoy the hotels exellent view it is best to ask for a room facing the two Mosques and as high up...

I have stayed at this hotel several times in the last 25 years. I've always found it clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. It is not a luxury hotel by any standard, but the location is truly fantastic. Ask for a room facing the Blue Mosque. If you are traveling on a budget and want a safe place to sleep in the heart of old Istanbul, this place is ideal.

stayed in hali in april 2012. i had initiially reserved for 4 nights but ended up changing it to 3 and then to 2 due to change of my plans in Cappadocia (visited capadocia first). the hotel staff was very helpful inc hanging the dates through email. i had asked for a higher floors and a view of blue mosque and i got exactly that. loved the room and the unbelievale view.
im a big breakfast person and i absolutely loved the breakfast terrace and the choice of food, epecially the yougurt and strawberry mixed they serve. the buffet was open as early as 6:45 whic h gave me great flexibility and there was nice relaxing turkish music from the radio.
the loctaion is in the middle of it all. i would go there again.
