“A great choice for the price, fantastic terrace and breakfast”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2012

We have just returned from a week's stay at this hotel and found it an excellent place to stay. Yes, the room was small (we went for the standard double) but we expected this from other reviews and visiting a city like Istanbul you don't really plan to spend much time in your room! It had all the basics - small set of drawers, wardrobe and mirror, the bed was comfy, and there was a fridge which was really useful. The bathroom was really spacious and clean. Air con also very effective to keep the room cool. The hotel was quiet (only 3 rooms per floor), and the staff at the front desk were helpful and friendly. Free wi-fi was good too! By far the best thing about this hotel is the roof terrace - normally you would pay big bucks for views like this! And the delicious and varied breakfast with homemade cakes and yoghurt! They also leave cake and biscuits out for you in the afternoon, this is good if you don't want to spend too much on lunch! The location is great - a few minutes walk from the heart of Sultanhamet (Blue Mosque, Aya Sofya, Hippodrome etc) but just far enough out of it on a quiet street for it not to be too busy or noisy at night. It's also only a 10 min walk from the tram to easily visit other less touristy parts of the city! For the price of this hotel we were really impressed and would definitely recommend it!

I hate to be "that person", but I have to call it like I see it. Most good reviews are raving about the roof top terrace views and breakfast spread. Both of these are great, but many small hotels in Sultanahmet have this same set up for the same price.

A lot of reviews call the hotel "cozy". The room was clean but there was about two feet between the walls and the bed, which was flush with a corner of the room. Bed was comfy but definitely smaller than a European or American queen size. This is definitely a hotel room that you don't spend any time in. If you're staying there in order to be close to famous sights, so you're out of the hotel all day, this would be perfect for you. Walking time to the Blue Mosque is literally 5 to 10 minutes, and there are restaurants nearby. It was a quiet hotel.

Pros:
- Fridge in room
- One working computer in lobby for internet (free)
- Clean
- Airconditioning worked

Our major problems were a very broken shower head. It looked nailed to the wall, but spun around as soon as water pressure went through it and doused the entire bathroom, flying over the walls of the shower and getting some of our laundry and toiletries soaked. The shower didn't drain.

Front desk staff was friendly, but when we arrived they tried to do something we noticed several other reviews mentioned. They say that there is a problem with your reservation (even though you prepaid) and that you have to stay at their sister property one of the nights in your reservation. We said we had switched hotels already in Istanbul and didn't wish to pack up and move again, so they could honor our reservation for both nights or we wouldn't stay at all. Miraculously, there was no longer a problem with our reservation. Seemed fishy, and didn't leave us with a great impression.

That impression deepened when we booked a show through the front desk and they gave us a map to the location which was supposed to be 10 minutes walking. It turned out the guy had just marked a random area on the map where he assumed the show was, and after being lost for 30 minutes we barely made it after asking multiple friendly Turks and even a policeman. We even encountered another lost couple on the way who had been given the same directions from our hotel!

In short we stayed at several small hotels in Sultanahmet that were the same in price and rooftop offerings. Sultan's Inn was the least impressive, but also the only one with a computer in the hotel, which was our greatest need.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the sea seemed to get better light and of course had a better view, but no bigger.

We stayed for 4 nights. Location is strategic for important attractions such as the Blue Mosque , Hagia Sofia Topkapi Palace (more or less 10 min walk). The hotel is clean and the staff is friendly and helpful. There is an excellent terrace view and Wi-Fi service throughout the hotel. Breakfast is complete and delicious.

Ottima scelta tra qualita' prezzo e posizione. Personale attento e disponibile. Camera pulita
buon soggiorno

Room Tip: we stayed in room nr 24.

The location of this cosy hotel was perfect. The terrace had a wonderful view of the Blue Mosque. The room was modest, but functional. The staff was helpful and available 24h. The location was safe and secure and appropriate for all types of travellers. Breakfast was included and was delicious. For the price, this hotel is excellent value.

This hotel has a fantastic location, just 5 min (or less if you have long legs) walking from the Blue Mosque and only 3 minutes from the Arasta Bazaar (much better than the Grand Bazaar). The breakfast is fantastic with a rooftop terrace for the nice weather. I have fallen in love with Turkish Breakfast...olives, bread, cheese, tomato, sweets, cereal, yogurt, coffee, tea, juices... The rooms are quite small, even for European standards, but they are clean. There are 5 floors, but there is no elevator, however the front desk staff was quick to carry our luggage to the room. The front desk staff was very friendly, but a little lacking on helping us with information regarding transportation and directions. The hotel does not have city maps for guests. They were interested in helping us book through the Backpackers Tours, but we were looking to do more things on our own. One afternoon the electricity was out for a few hours and then the next morning there was no hot water. Apparently there were road works going on and it affected the hotel. They offered vouchers to some guests to shower at another hotel. We were not offered that, but they did make amends by offering us a car service to the airport on our departure.
