“Grand in more ways than one”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 June 2012

My stay was a treat so I was on the 8th floor with the lounge and its benefits available to me. The staff in the lounge are really attentive, including giving a polite warning well in advance of the food being removed! The variety of food and beverages for breakfast and, later, cocktails is impressive. I believe this is one lounge which lives up to expectations. The room was large, clean and comfortable, with the bed being amongst the best I've encountered. All the facilities worked well.
The public areas are pleasant and well appointed. However, I agree with the reviewer who was disappointed with the gym. For a hotel of this standard it could be far better. On the other hand, the pool and its surrounds was a delight. With plenty of recliners, a pool area suitable for small children and a fairly large swimming area it is near to perfect.
The Grand Hyatt is walking distance from a shopping area and Taksim Square.
I've been pleased to have the opportunity to stay at this hotel twice and look forward to further stays.

The Grand Hyatt Istanbul is much what you would expect of a large international chain hotel. It is upscale, with well-appointed public areas and large restaurants. I travel frequently for business so accumulate a lot of hotel membership points so although I do prefer a local boutique hotel experience, I’d be a fool not to use my points for a free stay while on vacation. That’s what brought me here; an extension of my ‘short-trip’ with no availability where I was previously staying.
The staff were wonderful. I love the Turkish people and for a city as large as Istanbul, people are sincere and friendly, and this definitely was what I experienced in the hotel as well as the city at large. There was one mix-up. I was promised a room with a Bosphorous view, and that I would have to wait to check-in. Later in the afternoon when I did check in I was not given a room with a Bosphorous view. However, the situation was resolved quickly once I called to sort it out.
I enjoyed a standard room and found it well appointed, but just a little outdated in décor and the bed was not very comfortable as compared to other hotels I’ve stayed at in Istanbul, it was a bit stiff. The bathroom rain shower in this hotel however was the best I’d experienced. Something about the pressure just made it amazing. I never wanted to get out. I didn’t like that there was a window with shutters looking into the bathroom from the main part of the room. While the shutters obviously close, there is still a lack of privacy, and I was staying with a friend so it was kind of awkward.
The location is great; it’s walking distance to Taksim Sq and Istiklal Street which are great areas full of shopping , restaurants, bars and clubs. You can catch mass transit here to get to the old city or take a 10-15 minute cab over there.
The pool is beautiful, and perfect for a day of doing nothing, however if you’re in Istanbul on vacation and you have limited time, get out and see the city!
With my Diamond status in the Hyatt Passport program, I had access to the regency club lounge on the 8th floor. This was a very nice plus and if you don’t have status, I think they will offer rate packages which include access to the regency club which I’d recommend. The daily breakfast is wonderful and features a nice assortment of pastries, cereals and juices. In the evening there is a ‘cocktail hour’ with complimentary cocktails and a great spread of hors d’oeurves which was a very nice touch as well.

Overall I was happy with the hotel. The attention to detail was incredible. The gym is below average which was very disappointing and keeping me from giving this hotel 5 stars. The highlight though was my dinner in the Library. Had the most amazing food and I have been all around Turkey. I do wish the hotel had more restaurants, however. There is really only a choice of 2.

Conveniently located adjacent to Taksim Square, rooms were clean and comfortable,
The Regency Club was enjoyable and abundant with food and drink.
Overall the staff was knowledgeable and accommodating. Will definitely return on our next visit.

Room Tip: Regency Club a big plus.

We've been there mid-May. The room was big, the spa area is great, with big sauna and steam room. The hammam is even nicer, but reserved for massages. The breakfast was exceptional.
