“Excellent hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 April 2012

The staff at this hotel are excellent very helpful and offer a very high standard of service. The room was large, clean and very comfortable with a lovely view over the sea of marmara and Haydarpasa railway station. The hotel is also in a great location for the ferries to the European side of Istanbul with all the things that Istanbul is famous for only a 15 min ferry crossing away.3mins from the hotel is a Starbucks coffee shop, a supermarket selling everything you might need, There are lots of place to eat and drink all within a 5min walk as well as the main shopping area 10mins away all with prices much cheaper than the European side of Istanbul. For people who enjoy a walk the seaside area has a lovely walking path with an outside gym just 5mins away from the hotel.

I've stayed several times on Doubletree Moda during 2011/2, good location on the asian side of Istanbul but with several boat connections to other locations on the european side. Modern hotel (around 3 years I guess) with good facilities (excellent SAP and fitness centre), the sea views are outstanding. Very good reception service always welcoming you with a smile and great service. The standard rooms have the basic you would expect on a 5* hotel but depending of the floor and on your neighbours it can be quite noisy since you can easily listen what's happening on the other room, if you can get the sea side rooms!
Nearby there is a great offer of good restaurants, but if you prefer to stay at the hotel go for room service, it is not cheap, but you have more choice, better service when you compare it with the ground floor restaurant. I made a couple of meals there and I can assure you don't get what you paid for, the food is not great, the service is average and it costs more than room service.
On top floor you can find during spring/summer time a great swimming pool which gets converted to a bar during the night, the view is just outstanding! On the same floor there's also another restaurant which doesn't belong to the hotel, it is a local fancy/posh restaurant with a great view but quite expensive, typically full from Thursday to Sunday nights. Had dinner there once, for sushi, and it was a waste of money.

I have to admit its a good hotel but... do not take a room at 10th or 11th floor. On the 12th floor is a disco which doesn't belong to the hotel. The disco is open till 4 am from Thursday till Sunday and believe me you will hear everything in your room..

I stayed here with my girlfriend only a week ago and i can't say we were too impressed. After not being able to find somewhere to stay on saturday night on Büyükada, we decided to come here. The girl that i talked on phone about reservation was only nice till i say i won't reserve suit or deluxe/corner room. After asking "how much are standard rooms?", i felt that i was an ordinary person in her eyes. She was not willing to give so much information and she was still trying to give me the price of corner room which is 199 euro + taxes.

So we booked a standard room with land view which is 99 euro + tax ( 254 lira ) and not even a bottle of water is included in this price. Neither breakfast as you can guess. So for breakfast we had to pay 60 more so it came to 310 lira. And while you are paying, they get extra money from you as a "deposit" that "if" you use the minibar. And the extra money they get is just up to them, she settled it as 90 lira and we gave 400 lira. After paying 400 lira at 5 pm to stay one night doesn't make you feel so comfortable. And they don't give you any paper about your extra payment! I wasn't feeling secure about that. And while we were leaving she said to me wrongly "It looks like you paid 400 lira less, can i please take it?". My girlfriend says my expression in my face was really exhausted. Then they paid us back 85 lira after we discussed about it.

Rooms are really small though for not little amount of money. Minibar is of course very unnecessarily expensive. If you want to watch any movies, which are not new surely, you have to pay and stuff.

And obviously they "somehow" got permission to put that ugly building in middle of Moda which looks "terrible" from the sea. Come on, where's the aesthetic or respect to silhouette?

Rooms don't even have any balcony and windows can only be opened like 5 cm (less than size of hand)

And one of the most disappointing thing was breakfast for us. With my girlfriend, we always and always look forward to have good breakfast buffet and we've been told that it's awesome breakfast with more than 100 kinds of food. I think what they mean was more than 100 kinds of bread. Only 2 good things about breakfast, things were mostly fresh and they were giving you juice when you sit to table. And since this is a big building, breakfast area is really really small. In a hotel with only 13 rooms on Büyükada had bigger area with great sea view and way better böreks! :) And the girl that i talked on phone first (which i wrote that i didn't like) were trying to sell me the breakfast as well in the beginning by saying that "if you want it now it's only 30 euro, but if you don't buy it now and do it later, it's 50 euro! ) Allah Allah yaa! :)

And when we wanted to change our room and go to one which you are allowed to smoke, they sent us ashtray instead!

Well to sum it, i can say it really is not worthy for this money. Nothing definitely special about this hotel apart from unnecessary luxury.

To not feel guilty, i will point few good things about hotel as well:

After we checked in, the guy who led us to the room, Zekeriya, was really really really nice guy. Also while we were leaving hotel in the morning with our Galatasaray jerseys for Galatasaray's match in European side, he told us we can leave the luggages and get it after if we want. He was so kind. But we normally live in European side anyways so we didn't need to that.
And cookie they give you entrance is great.
View and location is good of course but since i remember this hotel is ruining the view itself!, it doesn't attract me at all.
Careline etc. staff on phone was helpful. I told them i think our remote's battery is out, they were directly sending someone but till someone came my girlfriend exchanged batteries places and it worked (it always works you know:))
The bed was soft and comfortable.

I've written long i think, thanks for reading. I would advise you to spend your money on some other hotel with better service and lovelier staff(most of staff were not so nice), and not waste it for hilton name.

Oh i forgot something. You should really check and how funny prices are about the special tours which you can find in books in your room if you go. It was really, really funny and expensive. For instance, "Dolmabahçe Palace tour, 1010 Euro! (thousand wouldn't be enough for sure)", "going to traditional Turkish barber shop, only few hundred euros!" etc.

Have a good trip!

Room Tip: Rooms with standard view can see the sea as well but i wouldn't advise you to stay in this hotel...

Doubletree Moda is currently my default stay for a long business engagement. I've abandoned the Hilton chain for a long long time (so much bad experiences). But the Doubletree Moda and it staff turned that around for me. Nice modern Hotel, good situated for doing business in the Asia part of Istanbul. At the same time it is easy to get across to the Old city center or even Airport.

Great staff. Decent restaurant, nice rooms and facilities. So a recommendation to stay.

Room Tip: Get a small upgrade to a room with Bosporus view. Seeing then the sunset over the Bosporus and old t...
