“What a wonderfull place to stay”
Reviewed 25 May 2012

We stayed at the Acra hotel recently, we had an absolutely great time. It is hard to find fault with this place. It is very clean, staff are exceptionally helpful especially Firat, Fatih and Jn Mesut.
Day trips were arranged effeciantly and professionally.
We loved the breakfast and Afternoon Tea. The location could not be better, 5 minutes from major attractions. I would definately stay there again.
A big thank you to all the staff!!!!

We enjoyed this hotel a great deal. Our room was nicely appointed and quiet, despite the fact that it was so close to the front desk. The breakfast is also a bit better than other local hotels and incorporates some ancient (?) brickwork and walls remaining from from early ruins. The staff are also pleasantly unintrusive and are not continuously offering brochures for various tours. This is a nice quiet hotel in the center of the Sultanahmet district.

Room Tip: They all seem to be good, as far as we could tell.

Despite the claims on the website the Acra could not be described as Boutique.
The hotel is clean and the staff, in line with all those we have encountered in Turkey, are lovely, friendly and almost impossibly helpful. Why average? there is nothing on offer to eat or drink at the hotel after breakfast except a can of lager from the fridge behind reception. The rooms are quite small and the walls are paper thin we could hear every conversation going on in the two rooms next to ours, I woke with a coughing fit in the middle of the night and fear I woke the entire second floor. The maid cleaning at 8 o'clock in the morning ensures you are up bright and early. The location is excellent but there are many hotels in the same district in which you may get a better nights sleep.

My mom and I recently returned from a week long trip in Turkey and had a great time at Hotel Acra! We arranged for pick up from the airport (which we were both incredibly grateful for as you never know what kind of ride taxi drivers will take you for - this is good to keep in mind anywhere in Istanbul. Don't get in a taxi off the street, it's always better to walk to a hotel or shop and ask them to call one for you.) Anyway, we arrived at the hotel and were greeted warmly with offers of a welcome drink and cakes and cookies.

Our room was beautiful. We had a corner room (normally meant to be a triple, but we were only 2) and had beautiful views over the river. Everything was tastefully decorated and clean. And the beds were comfy. There are no hot tubs in this hotel, (something I had been looking for in my original criteria) but in the end it didn't matter.

I have to give A++ for the staff. Everyone was incredibly helpful, offering to organize tours or call whoever at a moment's notice to arrange any of the activities we wanted to complete while in Istanbul. We were so well taken care of!

Location of the hotel was excellent for all tourist sites. It's 5 minutes to the Blue Mosque, Aya Sofya, and Topkapi Palace. Plus once it's a short walk to the Grand Bazaar and about a 30 minute walk to the Spice Market (we took a taxi instead.) Every time we walked out of the hotel we walked in the direction of the Blue Mosque, but I'd recommend turning the other way and walking along the water's edge if you have a chance. It is stunning and we'd both wished we'd done it more.

The only "down side" to the hotel, and this is minor, was that neither of us was really in love with the breakfast buffet. There is plenty of variety and the food is relatively good (and it is included in the rate of the room, of course, which makes it excellent!) but it wasn't the absolutely highest quality. THis is not a testament to the hotel, however, as the food was definitely good and it was great to start the day well nourished instead of going on a search for food above all else.

Other notes about Turkey which may be helpful: 1) Bargain! On everything, everywhere, whenever you can, (ok maybe not on cost of food in restaurants...) I think the rule of thumb is to bring them down about 40% And as my mom and I discovered, when we got back to the airport the price of all the goods were marked at the price we managed to bargain down to in the marketplace! I bought a beautiful large plate "originally sold for 200 Lire" for about 130, so it's always worth bringing the price down. 2) You don't need to cover your head to get into the Blue Mosque, but you will need to have your legs and shoulders covered, so be prepared with your own scarf of sorts. 3) Don't accept offers for tours from people standing around the big sites - they probably don't know anything and will definitely charge you a lot for it - don't trust their pre-negotiated rate or offer of a "free" tour...it never is. 4) Get outside the city if you have time. We took a flight on Atlas Jet to Izmir, rented a car, and drove to Pammukale and then back to Selcuk for Ephesus. Well worth the trip. Tiring, but the roads are all modern and with a GPS and road signs it is very difficult to get lost.

I would 100% recommend the Acra Hotel to anyone traveling to Turkey and would happily stay there again on my next visit!

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the water if you can. I think all rooms are comparable in quality, but it's ni...

We stayed at this hotel 3 times in a very short timeframe, since we went on to Cappadocia, back and then to Ephesus/Pumakale/Pergamum and back. Each time we got a different room, all were excellent. The location of this hotel is ideal, walking distance to Topkapi Palace and Archaeological Museums, Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, Basilica Cistern, and Arasta Bazar. By tram you get to the Grand Bazaar (two tram stations).Personnell is extremelly nice and forthcomming, beginning with the hotel manager Mrs. Ozlem Ozduman. Breakfast is outstanding and served in a very interesting breakfast-room in which one sees reamains of walls of the Palace built by the early Byzantine emperors.
