Description: "Ask most tourism representatives, restaurateurs, and waiters in Old Istanbul to recommend a restaurant, and most will offer Khorasani Kebab&Grill and Steak House. This restaurant has been a part of the Sultanahmet gastronomy scene for many years and is famed for its Turkish BBQ (the ocakbaşi), tender kebabs, and freshly prepared mezes. While the menu caters to a range of culinary interests, if you want a unique dining experience then ask to pick out your mezes and kebabs from the kitchen counter and have the chef cook your kebab over the BBQ's open fire inside the restaurant. Another popular dish from the coals of the BBQ is the Testi Kebab. As featured in New Zealand's World Kitchen TV show, this flavored meat and vegetable casserole is sealed in a clay pot, slowly cooked over the BBQ coals, and cracked open before the eyes of diners. Check out the video under "We in Press" on the Khorasani website for more information about the kebab from Central Anatolia. Khorasani also has a great wine menu and is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner." Afar.

We went to this restaurant because of good TA reviews and we were very disappointed. The meze were ordinary but the main courses were very poor. I ordered Eastern Vegetarian casserole. First a chicken dish appeared and then a boiling concoction of carrots, sprouts, cauliflower and broccoli. This bore no resemblance to the aubergine, bell pepper and courgette described in the menu. So I sent it back. It reappeared, even more boiled with a couple of pieces of courgette and mushroom added. The other main was too salty and also overcooked.
The waiter was apologetic and brought an excellent dessert of crystallised walnuts and pumpkin with tahini and then a liqueur by way of apology. Kind but did not make up for the food and hassle.

The Khorasani is conveniently located a few steps from a stop of the main tram line on a street with many restaurants and small hotels. Grilled meats are the specialty but a variety of offerings allow all the choices most of us would want. The quality is excellent, the ambiance is enjoyable, and the service excellent. When I stated my preferences for wine and food preparation, my server gave me recommendations which perfectly fit my desires. Try the duck breast in yougart - fantastic.

Our concierge recommended this place and we enjoyed it immensely. I can be a bit of a food snob but this restaurant hit the bulls eye for grilled kebaps. I'd suggest the mixed kebabs if can't make up your mind...our second visit, we focused on the juicy adnan kebab (spicy) and the pistachio kebab. Also try the spicy mountain salad. The food is an excellent value and the staff was very attentive.
