We very much enjoyed our stay at Istanbul Suite Home Aparts! Our airport shuttle from Sabiha had a little trouble finding it, and we started to feel a little worried when we got into the neighborhood. Lots of very old buildings in disrepair. However, once we got inside, all fears vanished. The building is newly remodeled with a very simple charm. Plenty of room in the living room and kitchen area to catch up with old friends. We were greeted by helpful and friendly staff who left us water, wine, chocolate, bread, and a fruit bowl. A good view of the water with lovely sunrises, and even the surrounding buildings grew on us. We were 5-10 minutes walking from most of the major tourist sites, but felt far from the hustle of the Blue Mosque. The reviews about noise are true. The building is not well insulated from sound, but that became part of the experience. In fact, we even decided to take a sound recording of the call to prayer from a nearby mosque at 5:30 am for a memory. Just buy some earplugs if you're sensitive to noise.

Even if situated in a run down area of Sultanahmet, we enjoyed the feeling of having a home in Isatanbul, with a magnificent view on the Marmara Sea, and close to the Blue Mosque. The apartment is modest but comfortable, very well equipped. We enjoyed taking some of our meals there, quietly away from the agitated crowd of our daily visits of Istanbul. The beds were comfortable and the environment was quiet enough. The manager, Cihan, was always available on call if we had a problem.

The apartment isreally spacious and well equipped, and close to the major sights. However, the street is very run down and frankly it's depressing to step out into it every time you go out - not what you want for a relaxing break. The worst aspect though is the appalling noise generated by the workshop next door: it starts at 0800 and finishes late in the evening - it drove me mad. I would also comment that the experience of other travellers, with lots of contact with the owner, was far from our experience . We started off abandoned in the (run down) street at midnight, waiting for someone who we were assured would arrive to let us in (eventually he appeared). The owner finally showed up after 2 days to collect his money. As noted by another traveller, there is a mosque a few steps from the door so the daybreak call to prayer is very loud.

The apartments are modern and well presented, but the neighbourhood is very run down and generally noisy. The house opposite operates as a metal working shop with much activity in the street. The local mosque is very close with its loud speakers pointed at the bedroom windows. This will ensure that you are fully awake for morning prayer at 5.00 am. During Ramadan you will also be woken by a drummer walking the street at around 3 am.

We booked and paid for one week, but were driven out of there after three nights. Workmen had moved in with jackhammers to demolish an adjacent building. The noise was intolerable. We had to pack and go elsewhere. We were refunded only for two of the remaining four nights.

As with many hotels in Turkey, there was no plug for the sink although one was supplied on request.

The two bedrooms and sleeping places in the living room make it suitable for family groups with high noise tolerance, but most singles and couples will do better elsewhere.
