As there were four of us travelling together, we hired a 4 bed room for the week which was brilliant as it meant we didn't have to worry about security or lockers at all. (Although they were in our room, so maybe they are only in some or the owner has since added them?)
Ahmet (the owner/manager) is pretty useful for information and if you are interested in going to a hamam, we went to the cheaper one he recommended which was really nice. It is family run and just round the corner and wasn't at all as scary as we thought it might be. Having not been to any others I can't really compare but as newbie's to the experience the friendliness, cleanness and fact that it was pretty much empty definitely made for a really relaxing experience.
Noise is going to be an issue in that area wherever you stay, and the fact that you could walk out your door and onto a street that had people and music and laughter was something I really liked, but having stayed over there as well, it is definitely quieter than the other side of the mall, where the main partying seems to happen. Having said that, inside the hostel itself is pretty quiet.
Its in a great location for seeing Istanbul while avoiding the overpriced "touristy" areas around the blue mosque.
Say hi to the pirate guy for me...More
