Great hotel in a central location in Colombo. We stayed at Cinnamon Lakeside while visiting Colombo for a friend's wedding and were very pleased. With 2 salons, several stores, restaurants, bars and cafes within the hotel, we hardly had to leave the hotel for anything. The hotel has a good spa, swimming pool and health club which will keep you busy should you not want to leave the hotel. Staff friendly and helpful too, but then again all Sri Lankans seem to be! Breakfast however may be a hassle with several people waiting to get a table if you do not get to the restaurant by 9am. Housekeeping also needs to pay more attention to the cleanliness of their bed sheets. Overall a great experience, and I plan to stay there on my next trip to Colombo as well!

My wife and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about our afternoon tea at The Cinnomon Lakeside. We were watching cricket at the library, while this kids were playing at the hotel pool and the Manager Tusara insisted that we take the kids to a afternoon tea at the hotel did not disappoint.

The hotel itself is lovely all of the staff were gracious, accommodating, and very nice; and the food and tea were superb and plentiful! I really feel that I need to emphasize that the staff were all so lovely and nice. That is really something you don't see everywhere and I appreciate it very much.

In terms of food, there were finger sandwiches, selection of cakes and then mini desserts. They even came around and kept offering us more of everything! We could not eat another bite by the time we left! Everything was very tasty and it was basically a full meal.

We chose whatever their basic tea experience was but it was entirely delightful and we did not want for anything. It was not an inexpensive, but it is certainly comparable in price to other higher end afternoon tea venues. For what we experienced, we both feel it was entirely worth it.

All in all, we HIGHLY recommend taking tea at The Dorchester!

the service at the reception very poor management has to keep a eye on that also at the restaurants they do not know to handle hotel guests on late arrival if they want to eat . Food however in the Thai restaurant has been so far good . My room has been very satisfactory . My opinion the management could do a lot more if the have energy to do so

We checked in on New Year's Eve and were spending under 24hours here. This property should desist from calling itself a 5 Star Hotel purely for it's facilities. A 5 Star or similar property needs to be really high on service as well. After a really long wait of over half an hour we were taken to our rooms. In our booking we had mentioned a special requirement for a king bed or 2 single beds whichever was possible. But the room allotted to us had an extremely tiny single bed...
When brought to the attention of the Lobby Manager, he PROMISED us a new room within a couple of hours and as we were guaranteed a new room, we preferred not to unpack and spoil the room. We spent the entire afternoon out in the city and as we returned after a good 6 hours, we were 'kindly' informed that no rooms were available as the hotel was running beyond it's capacity. Also another shocker was that the Lobby Manager who had previously promised us a room was in fact no Lobby Manager at all...This un-hospitable behaviour started to absolutely bother us and we decided the only way to get heard was to throw a tantrum in the Lobby. We spent another one hour waiting for a room but the Front Desk was too busy checking in people to take care of the resident guests.
No point taking more people than you can handle especially when you are in a service industry. Eventually we were given a room with a King Bed but only after a good 7.5 hours. Our New Year's Eve was ruined pretty much then on.
We're not going back to Sri Lanka for a real long time....

Room Tip: Raising voice helps get you the room of your choice. The staff is hard of hearing, slow in processing and not really welcoming

My friend and I stayed in this hotel around the New Year's. While Cinnamon Lakeside itself is quite at the level of the best, our experience with the reception desk personnel of this hotel has been gruesomely aggravating. We arrived around 7 in the morning and, first off, were told the check-in time at the hotel was 2 p.m. and there was nothing available at the moment. At the same time we were also told that there was a walk-in fee for people who didn't feel like waiting and preferred to get the room without any significant delays. Provided we agreed to pay the fee, we would only have to wait about an hour at the most. We asked how much the fee was and said we were ready to pay it right there and then. We filled out the application form, the man at the reception processed our passport data and said he would try to do 'everything he could' to get us the room if we would only wait for just a little bit. After that - nothing! As the old adage has it: a little bit goes a long way and our short wait turned into a four-hour grueling sit in the lobby right smack in front of the reception desk. Our several repeated inquiries and reminders were to no avail.
Much later in our wait and...still nothing! The same personnel kept looking through us, then got to avoid their glances and after that just forgot about us and kept on processing other travellers. On enquiring at the reception desk after the first two hours we were brushed off with a brusque "other people belong to a different category and there's nothing we can do".
Apparently now, in the hotel’s rationale we belonged to some strange 'other’ category and for some obscure reason even their initial offer on the walk-in fee no longer applied, nor any other meaningful solutions were available. I practically had to force a room from the reception after all and the man even pretended not to recognize me at all! All this with no single word of explanation or excuse! Had the Cinnamon Lakeview personnel been more professional, we would not have lost so much of our time and upon arrival in Colombo.

At a pinch I might recommend Cinnamon Lakeside to travellers but with a serious word of caution against that rambling and highly inefficient reception desk personnel. For tourists who still like to have this 'unpredictable’ factor out of their equation my advice is: better choose Hilton Colombo!
