“Back to the 80s”

It is no doubt one of the best hotel in Colombo however is extremely dated.

We enjoyed the Japanese restaurant and the Italian pizza place by the pool.

The rooms are very dated and have minimal amenities. The TV is from the early 90s.

They also charge for internet - a definite no no in this day and age.

The pub however is one of my favourites in Colombo. The cuttle fish is delicious and the cold beers on tap with lots of cricket on many tv screens eases the pain from the dated decor of the hotel and rooms.

As the hotel was near the railway line it was quite noisy - not only trains but loud PA announcements presumably coming from the station platform. This is an expensive top brand hotel, so obviously, the rooms need better sound proofing and/or double glazing.

We spent the last night of our 17 day trip to Sri Lanka at this very tired looking hotel. The rest of our party unfortunately had a full week here. This may have been a Grand hotel in the past, but now needs some serious work carried out on it to bring it up to a decent level. A friend staying here the whole week showed us his room. Threadbare seats, shower taps that worked only occasionally. The panel fell off the front of their safe continually locking their belongings in it until help arrived. Another friend who had paid the extra and was put in the Executive floor, spent 45 minutes locked in her room when the electronic door lock broke. Two engineers took 45 minutes to break through and release her.
The swimming pool was not much better. The guttering running around the pool was topped by plastic guards that were broken and in several areas it was patched up with painted plywood boards. Being shown to a sun bed my foot went straight through one section and luckily I prevented myself from falling head first.
We stayed in several hotels around the Island, from 5 bedroom family run beach hotels to 140 room Sri Lankan chain hotels. They all put this hotel to shame. Plus they all offered you free Wi-Fi which as usual Hilton never do, they prefer to squeeze every last drop of money they can out of you.
I am so glad I saw the real quality of hotels available in this beautiful country before coming here, otherwise it may have put me off ever wanting to come back.
My only suggestion is do your home work and find the quality hotels that are not that far from this location and give yourself the type of hotel you deserve.

Hotel was very comfortable and provided us with the best nights sleep that we have ever had in a hotel. My wife and I stayed for a week and found the hotel to be more than adequate. Breakfasts were very good, room on 9th floor was excellent, shower was fantastic and the swimming pool was great (although a good 5 minute walk to reach it from our room). Staff were very attentive.

Rooms are ok, the bathrooms are old and the hotel feels a little run down. Bed was comfortable and I slept well. Food is ok. Business centre is small and staff were very helpful.

Airport representative was there to meet me at the exit gate and walked me to the pick up area, but then I was left standing in the chaos of the pick up area being hit with other traveller's trolleys and breathing in all the fumes for 10 mins. The airport is extremely busy and clearly can not cater for the number of passengers requiring pick up even at 2am in the morning. I suggest that Hilton Colombo review their process for pick ups, perhaps the greeter can call the driver so that the exposure to bruised ankles and fumes is minimised.
