This is a visual delight, and a must see within UB as it give great insight into the history, cultures and traditions.
As mentioned in other reviews, there is an extra fee for taking photos. Thus seems to be very standard in Mongolia.

A great historical site and place to visit. Very interesting exhibits. I especially enjoyed the clothes the king and queen wore, very beautifully made.

A wonderful museum situated not too far from the city center. 10 minutes by cab, less than 30 minutes walk from the central square. Unlike other museums in Ulaanbaatar, the museum also doubles as a former residence of the last king of Mongolia. Unique in its blend of Buddhist and western architecture. Adult ticket price was reasonable at 8000 MNT. They gave discounted prices for children at 1500 MNT and 3000 MNT for college kids. Over 60 and under 6 was free. Friendly front office. Knowledgeable guide pursuing her PhD. Had a cute and cozy coffee shop, good parking space. I did enjoy all other museums, but felt this one was the best. Amidst the hustle and bustle of a congested and smoky city center, the museum offered a quiet relaxing experience not found elsewhere. Would definitely visit again when warmer. If visiting during the winter, make sure to go after noon when its warmer! Or bring spare change to head straight to the coffee shop to warm up after going through the summer temples.

The Palace is about 2km from Central Ulaanbaatar, 12000MNT by taxi or 500mnt by bus (taxis easier because unless you speak Mongolian catching a bus is not easy at all!) and is definitely worth heading out to.
Friendly staff in the ticket office- entrance will set you back 8000MNT so hardly a great expense even if on a budget- however it's worth noting you cannot take any photos inside (well you can if you pay 50000 for a permit).
The Palace itself seems to be in a bit of a state of disrepair, but the main attractions are the temples which are an amazing feat of architecture. Especially at this time of year in the snow, they look truly magical. They contain a wide array of weird and wonderful artifacts and art.
A great insight to Mongolian traditions which can so easily be missed in bustling UB.

Dear AlexJ262,

Thank you for your review and visiting our museum. We're glad you enjoyed the temples and the artifacts.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the indoor photography tax. We are instructed by the Mongolian Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sport to charge thusly to prevent damages caused by camera flashes. We are currently working on reducing the indoor photography tax price for flash cameras and removing the indoor photography tax for mobile phones without flash, which is estimated to be in effect before the end of the 2018 Summer Schedule (September 15, 2018).
