We spent 2 nights at the Settha Palace. This colonial style hotel is great with comfortable an spacious rooms.

The service is good and the manager of the place is very attentive to every details in order to maintain the bests standards.

The buffet breakfast doesn't offers a very large choice but the food quality is very good.

We have been a bit disappointed by the fact that a family privatised the hotel for a wedding. We have been told about that the morning of the event. All the hotel residents were parked on a side of the hotel in order to set up the table around the swimming pool from 10am.

This spoiled a bit our second day in Vientiane.

The hotel is a restored, colonial era building, and it is quite lovely. The ceilings are high, the floors are wide-plank hard wood, the bed is an old four-poster, and the bathroom has both a tub and a separate shower finished in marble. The wifi works well and the cable includes CNN. The dining room is from another age, with white linen and a good menu. The wait staff tends to hover a bit and watch you more than is occasionally comfortable, and the kitchen staff seems not to be aware that all their noise and chatter is audible in the dining room, but that's a minor matter. There is a spa with well priced services (and no monkey business!), and a large pool with deck chairs and bar service. There is also a really lovely lobby shop that sells unique and very attractive pieces made from exotic ebony, rosewood, and other varieties that made for unusual take-homes (rather than the usual souvenir tat). All in all a very good choice.

Lovely colonial style hotel, good restaurant, nice rooms, central location. The helpful and friendly staff even recommended nearby restaurants, mini mart, massage parlor, etc. Big flight of stairs with no elevator was only negative for us.

The Settha Palace Hotel is a charming, old-fashioned hotel, filled with a lovely feeling of history while at the same time possessing all the modern amenities. Highly recommended for both it's convenient location and it's pleasant grounds. The pool is a delightful place to unwind after a day of touring!

A good base for exploring Vientiane - the capital of Laos - very friendly and helpful staff - nice, good sized room, and the hotel is located a short walk from town. Excellent restaurant. Vientiane is not a terribly exciting place, but it's one of the gateways to Laos, and interesting for a couple of days.
