Unlike the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, this nearby Wat was ransacked by the Khmer Rouge under Pol Pot so most of what you can see is either new or repaired. It is, however, the headquarters of Cambodian Buddhism and it is easy to find a knowledgeable and English speaking monk or lay helper to tell you its story. They will also unlock a door in the stupa behind the Wat so you can see the altar that sits on top of what is supposed to be an eyelash of the Buddha - the countries greatest religious treasure! No fee but you are encouraged to leave a donation.
