“Take only the best rooms and fight hard for proper discount or walk away”
Reviewed 17 July 2012

Pacific hotel has (mostly) friendly staff ready to help or advise on possibilities in Dhaka.

The problem is that they definitely lost the battle against the filth or never even fought it. The corridors look like you never want to go there again and use the windows instead (but the building is too high). In our corridor on 8th floor we could admire a few rotten mattresses covered with dust and dirt - you just feel like to check the one in your room if it has the same pattern and check out immediately.
During our one week stay, no one bothered to clean our room and after asking them for it twice, a funny guy came who cleaned the floor, then locked himself in the bathroom for 2 minutes, then got out and nicely asked for bakshish.
Well I don't know if he was actually using our toilet or cleaning it, but the bathroom looked worse than before, everything covered with water including toilet paper, and the mirror - I think it has never been cleaned since its production.

One think I like in this hotel was a breakfast - paratas with vegetable were just delicious.

The bottom line is that even with Bangladesh standards in mind, the prices in this hotel are not worth its value. Don't even try the cheaper rooms - there are no mosquito nets and they look like jails.
So go for the best ones, negotiate your discount ruthlessly, and if you won't get it, just walk away. If you will, nicely check the beds for bedbugs.

Room Tip: Take only rooms with better standards, bargain for your discount until the last blood drop. Otherwis...

Friendly and helpful stuff.
Good rooms (under the circumstances in Dhaka)
Advise: pay more for a more comfortable room.

Hotel Pacific has great location, just in center of Motijheel (only place you can exchange money) not too far from Old Dhaka and train station. As it is hidden a bit it stays calm and quaiet and that is a good value in Dhaka.
It offers different tipes of room. Those without window ( for 13 USD ) are not nice because of the unpleasant smell. Much better for only 3 USD are rooms with window. Those have fan, TV, hot water. AC rooms are also availabele.
Internet is fast and it's free for the hotel guests.
Staff s quite helpful.

We stayed in the standard room for 1200T which has no window and is very damp. There is no circulation of air which makes breathing difficult. Room had a bath but no plug and too dirty to use anyway. Nicer rooms are available for 1800T.

We got a pick up from our bus drop off point, for which we were charged 300T. We were disappointed later when we realised it was just around the corner, which would be 20T in a rickshaw. I think they charged us the airport pick up rate which was grossly unfair given how close we were.

The owner appears helpful at first but you will tire of listening to him talk, talk, talk about himself and how he will look after you. It is a touch OTT and insincere, especially as his demeanour is quite unhelpful when there is a problem. We had some issues trading currency and saw a totally different side to him.

The rest of the staff are friendly but English isn't great and they are rubbish at giving tourist information, directions, distances for walking etc.

Good location. Free Wifi and Internet at reception.

Room Tip: Any room ending in 04 for example 404, 504 etc are damp with no windows. It is possible to pick up...
