Sometimes I wish Tripadvisor would allow each reviewer to give a 6 rating once in a while because this place deserved it, but as I can't do that, here goes ...
Greeted personally by the manager following a lovely 20 minute boat ride from the mainland. Taken by golf buggy, driven by our butler, to our secluded, private two-floor villa complete with plunge pool in front and walk down to the ocean. Everything immaculately presented. We had a lovely lunch each day, swam in the ocean, went snorkelling in the coral reef and relaxed in our personal pool. The whole thing does have a nature feel about it, there is something quite refreshing about showering in the open under the stars in the privacy of ones back yard!
Food was very good indeed, the chef and his team produced some great dishes, my favourite being the five spiced duck breast (will be requesting recipe from the resort). And it's not many places where if you want something specific making, the chef will do his best to get the ingredients and make it for you. Can't comment on the restaurant atmosphere as we chose in villa dining for breakfast and dinner and ate in the pool bar for lunch. The wine list in the main restaurant is the best one I saw by a mile in 3 weeks in Vietnam (and indeed many restaurants in the UK), with wines for every budget and style. They can deliver wines to your room for in villa dining, with appropriate stemware.
There were a couple of points on food service that could be improved, e.g. getting the ingredients for breakfast omelette right, sending enough butter with breakfast to the room (or on one day just forgetting the butter), making sure that a second bottle of the same wine is of the same vintage (I highly doubt we had the last bottle of 2009 Allan Scott) but nothing major and certainly not worthy of making a dent in this perfect experience.
As for price ... yes compared to the rest of Vietnam this place is more expensive, but it's also amazing, so you pay for what you get. Furthermore, it is nowhere near the prices for a city such as London, Paris or even western provincial towns. A main course is between £12.50 - £25. The Allan Scott Pinot Noir I mentioned was just over £30, which is a good price for a wine of that quality on a wine list and also not as expensive as other places in Vietnam that we stayed.
So as the manager, our butler and some of the team waved us goodbye as we sadly left the resort after three glorious days, we had already started planning our return visit later this year.
Only consideration for visitors which we weren't aware of before we went was how close you are to the wildlife. We had a bat flying around our room and a frog near the shower as well as moths and other such creatures. We read in the guest comment book that one room had a monkey visit them. For us that's fine and it added to the experience (we named the bat Geoffrey and the frog Alf), just something to bear in mind.
