If you are thinking of moving from HCMC to Phnom Penh, and want to explore the Mekong delta on a bicykle on your way, we can really recommend a three days guided tour with Vietnam Bike tours. Actually, the two first days are cycling, approximately 35 km day one and 50 km day two. The last day is the 6 hour boat trip from Chau Doc to Phnom Penh. The tour was well organized, the guide was speaking English quit well, he had a lot of knowledge, the bikes were good and there where a lot of interesting places to see, which you will not see from one of the boat cruises you can choose between. The only negative thing, is that it is a little to much driving before the start of stage 1 and after the end of stage 2. The cycling are mainly performed on small roads/paths with very little traffic and daily stages suitable for "normal trained" persons. The time we spent on the tour (three days, including the boat from Chau Doc to Phnom Penh), we think was perfect for our travel. Probably will many tourist find two days on the bikes enough to explore the Mekong, and it is a good way to enter into Cambodja.

biking on beautiful pathes is very quiet. you discover a wedding in a village, you can attend a sunday time in a village church. people and children say hello and smile. the irst night in a homestay is very sympathetic, you cook with people, discuss with some other tourists, have a silent time. the very uninteresting moment is the visit of floating market, among a lot of tourist boat, it lasts only 1 hour.. our guide Thach Sarane was very sympathetic during these 3 days, he made a lot of efforts to speak a perfect english, congratulations.

We had formed a group of eight friends, so had our own tour.

The first two days of the tour involved transfer from Hanoi to Halong City, overnight boat trip on Halong Bay, and transfer back to Hanoi. Halong Bay is amazing, which goes without saying. Our boat, La Paloma, had a really pleasant crew. They provided several fun activities (incl kayaking).

The next six days involved biking between Hanoi and Danang. We only biked on selected segments. We had opted for the less expensive of the two accommodation choices but were quite happy with what this provided.

The tour company provided bikes, helmets and water bottles.

Our guide was very pleasant and extremely helpful. He was a great addition to the biking experience. He added a lot to the fun atmosphere of the tour. We liked the choices of where we would bike and where we would be transferred.

This was a great introduction to Vietnam.

I planned a custom bike tour with seven friends through VBT that worked out very well. They handle all the planning details: Including bikes, a comfy van, hotels, meals, route, sightseeing along the way, even snacks, And provided a terrific guide. The service couldn’t have been better.

They accommodated special diet requests for vegetarians, picked us all up at the airport, and made reservations for us outside of the tour time period. Our guide was so attentive to us and open to all our questions, that we really felt that we got some insight into the culture.

Though we were a diverse group in terms of age (28-66) and level of fitness, we all had fun and were challenged. The van was always close is someone needed to sag.
I highly recommend VBT.
