“Stayed as part of an 'Original' Intrepid Tour/Scenic Vietnam”
Reviewed 23 September 2011

Part of an Intrepid Tour, Polite staff. unfortunately probably due to circumstances beyond the tour control, allocated the room on the 9th floor and the lift only went to the 8th floor, next to the Laundry, but when we spoke to them about their noise they were then quiet for all our time there, but we did lose a very good quality shirt, even though my husband had filled in the form correctly, someone couldn't have checked their laundry when it was returned to them, so we lost out! Hotel did not charge us laundry cost, cause we wouldn't have paid it after that happened. Fridge in room was good, large room and bathroom, window had natural light but not fantastic view which you probably don't get in Saigon anyway. Buffet breakfast was the worst one we had experienced in Vietnam, not a lot of choice. Good location, Closeby to the large market area, and there is a nice park across the main road at the end of the street, get there around 7 - 8 am for coffee 7,000 dong and see the locals bring their singing birds in their birdcages to the park and socialise, nice touch in the mayhem of saigon ....

Neat, clean, nice varied breakfast for $30 per night. Not far to walk to Ben thanh market, parklands ect situated in district one. Would stay again. 7km from airport, $5 taxi fare

We spent 5 nights here - the first night in a standard room, which was pretty small and claustrophobic, for $25, and the remainder of the time in a standard-deluxe room, which was $30 but we negotiated $27 a night. It was definitely worth the extra $2 for the larger room!

Rooms are adequately furnished, beds are comfortable, good pillows, lots of amenities in the room, good shower and plenty of hot water. Walls are thin, as others have noted, and it can get a bit noisy. Even though the standard-deluxe room was reasonably large, there was very little decoration and it had a prison cell sort of feel to it. But the price was right and it's in a decent enough part of town, so we felt that it was a reasonably good value. Housekeeping comes in every day and does a good job - I'm picky on cleanliness and had no complaints at all here.

Breakfast - well, it depends what time you have it. If you're an early riser, the food is quite good, with lots of Oriental choices and fried eggs, bacon and baguettes, too. But if you like to sleep in and don't come down til around 9 am, you'll find that the food may have been fresh and delicious two hours earlier has now become stale. Being late-sleepers, we elected to have breakfast elsewhere after suffering through two days of over-cooked eggs and crispy-stale baguettes (and no bacon, which was gone by then).

The only other complaint that I have is that service was good but quite impersonal. We had reserved the standard-deluxe room, but when we arrived, they said that they didn't have any of those rooms available and downgraded us to a standard room with no apology at all. Transferring the next day to a larger room was no problem, but that wasn't really the point.

All in all, we had a good stay here and I'd recommend it to others. As another reviewer had recommended, do seek out the kebab vendor around the corner - fresh and delicious and only 14,000 vnd!

If you do as we did and decide not to have breakfast at the hotel, just down the street on the opposite side is a cafe called White Nights that has reasonably priced and good breakfasts and very good coffee.

Stayed here twice recently - on our way to and from Cambodia. For a budget hotel this delivers - rooms are clean. Location is good. Avoid the rooms without a window which they sell for $25 a night as rather claustraphobic. other rooms at $30+ are great. Breakfast makes this place worth staying at if all else fails! Pho, noodles, stir fry's, eggs+bacon, coffee, fresh fruit and baguettes..

Stayed 3 nights in a $27 per night room. Very clean and moderately new fit out compared to some others. Staff friendly and included breakfast was nice. Really good location close to the centre of city. Highly recommend this place.
