We were really excited to stay here when we were on our way to Hanoi because the reviews for this place were phenomenal. It is tucked into a little alley so it is easy to miss. The location is wicked, right in the middle of the old quarter, close to great food, close to lots of trip advisor restaurants, fresh beer, stores, travel agents, etc.
The owner that is so highly spoken of in the reviews must be gone for a while or permanently. The kid in charge, pretty young, is really nice and tries to be as helpful as he can be but he is still learning. We asked about booking ha long bay because I read an earlier review that said the hotel got them a great deal and he simply said he doesn't have enough experience, and to be honest I appreciate the honesty.
Room was clean when we arrived, though wasn't cleaned once in the 5 days we stayed, not a huge deal for us though. The rooms are very old school in terms of the style which I loved. Bathroom is a decent size though our hot water tank wouldn't work, and after freezing from the AC all night , a cold shower in the morning doesn't feel Great. The bidet in the bathroom was also leaking so our floor was always wet.
Breakfast is included though we only had it once when we got up early to go to ha long bay. It was pretty bland, nothing fancy. Honestly hanoi has so much fabulous food and amazing coffee, who cares if you have breakfast included, go spend a few bucks to experience some awesome eats, it's worth it.
Over all we liked it here. We paid about 17 US/ 19 CDN a night. Later in hoi an we paid 10 cdn a night both of us for Hot water and had our room cleaned every night, so I think for what you get, the price could be lower for sure. But I would alone pay for the awesome location as we never had to pay for cab anywhere.

I stayed in the Discovery Hotel over the Vietnamese holiday period, and have zero complaints. Comfortable rooms, perfect location in the Old Quarter, and the staff are incredibly lovely and helpful. My friends had to leave Vietnam, and come back in, the lovely lady at reception sorted out them getting new visas to return. It's a really great place. Highly recommended, very affordable.

Clean rooms and dorms, and much moore quiet and low key than most of the old town party all night cheapies.
The guy at ghe reception actually studied at the tourism school in Hanoi and knows what he is doing and is able to communicate with the guests, which is not so common in Vietnam.
Highly recommende, worth your money !

We stayed at the Discovery hotel for 4 nights in a double room with air condition and a balcony. The price included breakfast.
The room was very nice and clean. It also had a TV and wifi was available. A computer in the reception was also free to use for hotel guests.
The location was very central in the old town so you could walk to a lot of things and attractions. You also had a lot of bars, restaurants and food stands close by. This also meant that there was loud music every night, but it was shut down at 12 pm every night - no exception.
The staff was really friendly and helped us book a 2 day 1 night trip to Halong Bay for 90$ per person with everything included - it was a nice trip, nothing to complain about.
The hotel also arranged for a taxi to pick us up and go to the airport (fixed price) which I think was cheaper than doing it on our own.
Great hotel in the middle of the city where they can help you with trips to Halong Bay. Would definitely recommend this place.

Hostel entrance is a little bit tricky to find. But excellent location. in the middle of old quarter where magic happens. Bia Hoi (home brew beers) is at doorstep of the hostel for 5000vnd. Very convenient and helpful staff. Generally Vietnamese are quite honest and friendly. 5mins walk to Hang Buon (food street) Winter X Christmas ambience was magical in Hanoi :)
