This was a very nice hotel. I enjoyed a nice noodle meal from room service on arrival, which was very tasty. The room was large and spacious and very comfortable and the breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. Of particular interest was the nightclub within the hotel itself - a modern dual level room with dance floor and bar, a good addition to the hotel. Overall, it was very good and nicely located in the city.

The Melia situated on Ly Thuong Kiet St in Hanoi is a excellent hotel away from the hustle and bustle of the general tourist area around Hoan Kiem Lake. The rooms are very good and generally large in size and have panoramic views over a smoggy Hanoi, the breakfasts are first class and in general this is a very high quality hotel. The staff are friendly and efficient

Ly Thuong Kiet St is only busy in rush hour but quietens down in the evening.and there are some restaurants close at hand...avoid the seafood restaurant directly across the road, the service is very poor.

The hotel is only 200 metres or so from the infamous "Hanoi Hilton" prison which is worth a look..there is also a small supermarket on the ground floor of the office block which has been built over 2/3rds of the original prison site.

Be warned that Ly Thuong Kiet St has a particular scamming group operating. A young lady will suddenly appear behind you with a typed sheet of paper, normally laminated, proclaiming she is a student collecting for the Red Cross...don't be fooled, she is just trying to cheat you out of your money and when you refuse she will get back on the back of her male companions motor cycle who drove her up behind you and vanish looking for the next victim.

Room Tip: There are floors designated for non smokers..if you dont like the smell of a smokers room ask to be checked in to a non smoking room. There is no special side to this hotel, all rooms have good sound proofing and are all equally comfortable.

The Melia could slot into most European or American cities as easily as it does Hanoi: a large, multi-storey business hotel which works very well. Our "superior" room was the largest hotel suite we've ever stayed in: the big sitting room with a huge desk in one corner had a touch of an office about it; there was a separate loo as well as an en suite bathroom with a bath and standalone shower; and the bed was the largest we had during a fortnight in Vietnam. The outdoor pool was on the cool side, but was still a pleasant spot to linger on the poolside loungers. Breakfast from the very large buffet selection was excellent. A major conference was taking place while we were there, adding to the corporate feel of the place - no-one is ever going to describe it as a romantic hotel, but it works extremely well as a comfortable, pretty luxurious big-city hotel.

stayed one night and everything was good. should have stayed here rather than at Intercontinental westlake, had i knew melia was like this. clean and roomy, with large lcd tv and a nice desk for work in room. nice staff with good service. special appreciation to Riva, a chinese-speaking receptionist, who is very nice and willing to help.

Very good choice for business and leisure as well. Will come back next time.
