Nice hotel to stay. Sited next to West Lake. Great for morning walks. Not a great location as it is quite a distance from the city centre. Need to take a taxi to town. Comfortable room with large bathroom. Our timing was not great as there were renovation works being carried out during our stay there. Couldn't take a short siesta with the drilling sounds emanating from the higher floor. Breakfast was good with wide selection of Western and Asian spreads. Staff were friendly. Concierge was helpful. Room service was responsive and we loved the tuna sandwich and pho. Not much shopping places around the hotel but quite a number of nearby restaurants (including a KFC outlet if you feel peckish at nite).

Dear Guest

Warm greetings from Sofitel Plaza Hanoi

Thank you for staying with Sofitel Plaza Hanoi and spending time to write a review here on Trip Advisor. It was such a pleasure for to serve you.
It was my regret that the disturbance from the construction noise prevented you to enjoy your stay at the fullest. We definitely take this concern seriously to better arrange rooms for guests to minimize noise affects from any future maintenance work.
On the other hand, I was my delight that you enjoyed our newly renovated room, our food and the assistance of our staffs. Just like you, many guests really enjoyed the fact that our hotel is right next to 2 beautiful lakes. Although that means we are not in a walking distance to center of town, it is very convenient to take a 10-15 minute taxi ride to city centre. Our concierge team is more than happy to provide you suggestions on place of attraction, shopping addresses, etc.
Thank you again for sharing your experience and we hope to welcome you back in the near future.

Warm regards

This hotel is wonderful and relaxing place in Hanoi. The lobby is grand and the staff is on point. The rooms are spacious, clean, you can spread out your stuff. I did not have a lake view and the room was still very enjoyable. For how little time I spent in the room I would not pay for a lake view. The breakfast is great but skip the dinner buffet too pricey if your not a big eater. What is really enjoyable is the indoor pool especially when visitng in February. The rooftop bar has a spectuacular view at night but has more of a night-club feel contrasted to the more upscale feel of the rest of the hotel. The only negative of this hotel is there is no wi-fi in the rooms not even for purchase unless on three particular floors, so wifi was limited to the lobby which was an inconvienance. This is a very buisness like hotel, not much for romance.

Room Tip: Save a buck and skip the lake view. If you are traveling on buisness make sure to book a room with w...

Have stayed at this hotel at the end of 2011/the beginning of 2012. We're so lucky that they upgraded our room from Superior to Deluxe, and even more we had a room with a view to the lake (West Lake). The room's spacious and nicely appointed. The bathroom's stunning (with shower & bathtub), and they provide amenities from l'Occitane (I always love l'Occitane shampoo).
Overall service's excellent, especially the House Keeping team, thumbs up.
The hotel location is excellent, only 2 minutes walking distance to the lake. Well, actually we went to many parts of Hanoi by taxi, which's only few dollars per single trip, really convenient and affordable.
The buffet breakfast's good and it has many selections, they serve 'pho' as well. One downside regarding the buffet breakfast is ....it's a bit pricey, considering it's Hanoi that we're in.
The hotel also has an indoor heated swimming pool, so it's a plus point.
Nice stay overall...!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with lake view.

Good location for exploring the old quarters. Comfortable rooms. Our club floor room had a great view of the lakes. The Executive lounge is nice. We also appreciated the 3 pieces of laundry per day free of charge. On our final day we actually sent more that three 3 pieces - and the hotel discounted the 3 most expensive items cleaned - nice touch.

Service and food quality was a bit hit and miss. Ok for a few days, but not quite the sort of experience you expect from a Sofitel.

Beware that the hotels concierge only seems to have a very basic A4 sized photocopied map of the city. This really is a amazing oversight on the part of the hotel. I don't think I have ever stayed in a 5 star hotel that has not been able to offer a decent free map of the area.

Maybe this is something to do with the fact that there is a tours desk next to the concierge?

We ended up doing a one day tour of the city. In reality we did not see anything we could not have easily visited on our own based on the Trip Advisor list of things to do.

Finally, just to balance this review out, I would comment that one of the concierge team members really helped by personally escorting me to a local chemist to buy some tummy tablets.

Room Tip: Club Floor offers great views
