We ended up staying here for 6 nights in the end. And partied for most of them.
This hostel has a great vibe. You can sit in the bar area for just a few minutes and other travellers will come and chat with you.
The rooms are clean, bathrooms modern and the staff are very friendly/helpfull. There is free wifi in each room which was good enough for our needs.
There is free beer from 7-8pm which is a great way for lone travellers to make friends. And a free pub crawl starts after.
If you didn't party too hard the night before the free breakfast is good. And then there is also a free walking tour which is worth it if you're up in time! You also go to a cafe along the way to try the infamous egg coffee.
We also bought our bikes through the hostel. We just asked at the reception and they arranged for someone to pick us up and take us to their garage. The service was better than anyone else we spoke to seemed to get and the bikes have lasted us so far travelling from Hanoi to Laos.
All in all a good place to stay and meet like minded travellers.

We stayed here July 2017 and it is a nice friendly hostel. If I were to know this before booking, I would stay in the old quarter sister to this hostel, just as it's bigger and a bit livlier.

It's a comfy, welcoming hostel with really a really nice en-suite bathroom in the 8 bed dorm that we're in.

From 7-8pm every night you get unlimited free beer which is always a winner, and then at 9:30 you all walk to the sister hostel for more free beer at 10pm. Then go out after!

The staff are friendly and there is free breakfast which is nice and always a bonus.

Great location. Just 5mins walk from the Main Street but far enough away to sleep from the noise. Receptionist we're very helpful and did all they could to accommodate us and make recommendations. Rooms were clean. Only flaw was a very bad breakfast as I am vegan.

The island and its surroundings are beautiful, but for 85 USD you'd expect more activities. On the first day you go swimming and kayaking, on the second day there was a very short hike/climb of about 20 mins, where you climb to the top of the island. The food is great but the drinks are expensive at the resort, and not included. Overall a fun trip but a bit overpriced!

Thank you so much for you feedback.
To your mention about the price of the tour, we could say that our tour is not overpriced for what you got . $85 for boat trip cruising to visit the bay, boat jumping, kayaking, swimming and hiking on the second day. Compared to other halong bay tour with same rates, you even dont have chance to do hiking if you do those tours.
To the complaint about drinks, we could say that not only our tour but any other tours, drinks are always not included unless you prepay for that. You will see that when you do other tours and we do believe that everyone who has been doing our tour, knows that and also we always inform our guests that when they book the tour.
The drinks on the island are more expensive than when you buy in supermarket cause we have to pay a lot for transfering them to the island from mainland.
Once again, thank you so much for booking and doing our tour. All the best for you.

Loved my stay at Central Backpackers in Hanoi, but especially loved the Hideaway Tour. The tour was a good balance between social and active. It's not a total booze cruise, so you actually get to see and enjoy the islands more! The first day was more party with a great boat ride, swimming and kayaking. The second day, much more active, with trekking and biking, and the last day a little more chill.

The food was great! Fresh buffet style for all meals. The rooms aren't very nice, kind of reminded me of summer camp (a close quarters 24 person dorm) but because you there's so much to do they get the job done. Definitely recommend this tour if you're looking for a balance of fun and active, with the chance to meet lots of cool people!
