Much as we travellers love authenticity and getting to know the real feel of a place, there are times when you just have to accept that you are too hot and too tired of being almost run over by a moped. This is the perfect spot to head for some air conditioned tranquillity which I found I needed at times in order to get the most out of Hanoi. It serves largely Western food at almost western prices, but the coffee is good and you get a free refill on a large filter coffee.

Hi borntotramp,

Thanks for your review! We too love the local food and life but need a western break sometimes. We're honored that you chose us for your refuge from the heat. Tranquility can count for a lot on long trips.

Thanks again for choosing Joma and we hope the rest of your travels were great,

...for being there in the crazy Old Quarter when we need some comfort food. Great sandwiches, reasonable coffee and good cakes. Try the lemon slice, it really is delicious and only 25000 dong ( just over a dollar). They serve a large range of drinks and coffees. A small latte costs 40000 dong ($2).

Western style modern cafe, with AC and lots of space if you want to sit down with your computer. Food is okay. Fruit juices are somehow not as good as everywhere else is Hanoi, not recommended, but the iced coffee is delicious.
You have to order at the counter every time, which is a bit messy, especially if you come alone and don't want to leave your stuff alone at the table. The service is otherwise okay, but, well, minimal.

Hi asianride,

Thanks for your review of Joma! It sounds like you've found a few favorites, iced coffee, and that there are a few things you don't care for. We appreciate the feedback! We're always trying to get better and good enough for us, isn't.

We position our ordering at the front of the cafe and the overall service should be more efficient than ordering coffee from your seat. We're sorry if it is sometimes messy as we can get quite busy.

Thanks again for your review and choosing Joma,

Joma at 22 Ly Quoc Su in the Old Quarter of Hanoi just about a block and a half northwest of St. Joseph's Cathedral is a great place for breakfast, lunch, or a light dinner. Of course, you can indulge your sweet tooth there with a myriad of baked goods and flavored coffees and teas. The atmosphere is simple modern with seating in the bakery, along an indoor (then outdoor) hallway, and finally to a large air conditioned dining area. Many of the tables have large stuffed chairs for relaxing. The facility provides wi-fi so is an ideal location to check on email while enjoying a snack or lunch and a latte or mocha. You can even make your own sandwich with choice of bread, meat (or veggie, cheese, toppings, and condiments. My favorite is the smoked salmon on a sun-dried tomato bagel, with cream cheese and lettuce and tomato with an iced mocha and a dessert for about USD 7. Mostly Westerners, but not totally. Sparkling clean (including water, ice, and veggies) with efficient, bring-it-to-your-table service. Another Hanoi location on To Ngoc Van street, plus locations in Vientiane and Luang Prabang, Laos.
