“Reasonable "Botique" hotel in Old Quarter, Hanoi”
Reviewed 1 May 2012

Selected this hotel from Zhuhai, China because of Lonely Planets' succinct description in best hotels in Old Quarter - did not have access to computer/TripAdvisor numerous rave reviews.Stayed 3 nights in front Dbl. deluxe with view on highest floor, which required climbing 3 flights of stairs. Rooms in back can be accessed by elevator. 3 night stay gets you free airport P/U & saves you $18USD and much time & frustration. Room was small because of so much being packaged into the room - huge king + size bed, nite stands, clothes cabinet, long desk/console,fridge. Bathroom/shower was spotless, modern, fully equiped. Noise in front(street) was negliable due to double-pane almost soundproof windows, which you could open if you wanted to hear sounds of the city. Included breakfast was more than adequate; if not, you could order from full menu at extra cost. Seating for eating was very conducive to meeting fellow travelers from all over. Downstair computers/printer & small library available gratis. Room rate was a very reasonable ~$35USD/nite. Staff was very efficient, friendly, helpful English speaking and always available & always remembering you by name and what you experienced yesterday or what you plans were for today with numerous suggestions at their disposal.

Room Tip: Room in front with view was mu only choice

The service at Art Hotel was excellent. All of the staff went out of their way to remember us by name, and really did strive to see that every need of ours was met. They helped with booking a taxi, organising a Ha Long Bay Tour (Glory cruises - not the cheapest but a decent quality, enjoyable tour), booking the night train from Da Nang to Nha Trang etc.

The room was lovely - fridge, tea and coffe facilities, complimentary fresh fruit and water, fresh rose petals on bed, little pastries left by bed at night.

The standard quiet room we booked only had a sliver of a window and no light- but we understood this is the trade off for a quiet room set back from the street bang in the middle of the hotel.

We had booked ahead on Agoda, and decided to stay another 2 nights. Unfortunately the only room available on one of these nights was the most expensive room in the hotel - the family suite. When we checked online on Agoda they were still showing 2 standard rooms available, but the staff assured us this wasn't the case, and urged us not to place the booking as we would have to be given a free upgrade. A little perplexed as to why we should pay for something when we had been told we could get it for free by exploiting their mistake on Agoda, we decided to do the nice thing and just pay their price for the suite, as the staff were so nice. Still- that's something management should look at as it is misleading. We are sure the staff were being honest and that the hotel was genuinely booked solid, but it still gives you that uneasy feeling so common in Vietnam that you are having extra dollars squeezed out of you.

The suit was lovely though - with a private terrace and complimentary bottle of wine thrown in. Definitely worth the extra few dollars.

The rooms are narrow - the entire width of the building - but we didn't find this detracted from the interior of the rooms. Lots of effort has gone into the decor, which is fairly new and very Asian in styling.

We felt that the service we got for the midrange price we payed for the rooms would easily outsrip the cold, disinterest service you recieve in many top end hotels.

Great laundry service with clothes wrapped up in little bundles.

There was a good variety of food at breakfast - eggs, bacon, pancakes, fruit, cereal etc.

All in all one of the top 2 places on our 6 weeks in SEA!

Room Tip: 'quiet rooms' are indeed very quiet but offer no natural light so a bit tough to wake up in...

The Art hotel and their hospitality are amazing. You are made to feel so welcome and at home. We arrived in Hanoi and were going straight to Halong Bay before staying at Art hotel for a few nights but we went to ask if we could leave some of our bags there and freshen up with a shower as we had just suffered a 15 hour train journey. This was no problem at all.
Once back from Halong Bay we were greeted with welcome drinks and shown to our rooms. The rooms are nice, clean and tidy. We requested a quiet room which meant no window but this didn't bother us at all as we only sleep in our rooms anyway. And because the rooms were so quiet we had fantastic sleeps.
What really makes this hotel is all of the staff. They are super lovely, friendly and helpful and learnt our names straight off and used them every time to greet us. Honestly their staff are like staying in a 5 star hotel - it was a breath of fresh air. They even walked down to the Puppet theatre to get us tickets for us as we couldn't get down there and they were concerned for us that tickets would sell out.
They found out it was our honeymoon so suprised us one day with flowers on the bed and a cake which was a really nice touch.
The breakfasts are fantastic and included in the price, small bottles of water were complimentary in your room each day. Fresh fruit was also provided in your room each day and little sweets and a good night note each night. The hotel location is bang in the middle of the old quarter and walking distance to a number of attractions which is so handy. Wifi is free and there are computers to use as well as a small library. I highly recommend you stay at the Art hotel - you won't regret it.

Honestly, for customer service, care and attention, I have not had better than any other hotel, regardless of class.
Rooms are tidy and clean, mini bar and extras very well priced and breakfast was great and included in our very competitive rate.
If I was to return to a hanoi, I would stay here again.
Thanks to all the team for making our stay the highlight of Vietnam!

Stayed here four nights and had a wonderful time. The breakfast is tasty (lots of dragon fruit); the staff is really helpful (although they were 20 minutes late on a wake-up call!); and the room was spotless. The women at the front desk went out of their way to remember our names. Nice touch!
