Everything about this 2 night cruise was fabulous. The staff on the boat were friendly and helpful. The relaxation and dining spaces and our room on the boat were lovely. The food was beyond amazing. The lunch on the beach with the boat in full rig in the bay was divine. Kayaking, swimming, visiting the cave and relaxing all made for a wonderful 2 days.
Best of all, I got to meet Ky amThe Phung, a wonderful Vietnamese flute player who is teaching Monkey (Dragon Pearl staff) to play the bamboo flute ( so he can play for the passengers, perhaps in the cave...which would be amazing!) Thanks for the flute - I'm still practising Tình ca Tây Bắc !

Thank Cathy L

The dragon pearl wooden Junks are the only way to visit Halong Bay. We took the 3 day / 2 night package. The pearl only accommodates only 16 people and this is a magic number for intermingling. The majesty of the islands is mind blowing to say the least. We were lucky enough to be allocated a 2nd deck cabin which was tremendous. Two large opposite direction opening windows as well as having air conditioning if desired. Plus we had a port hole in our Bathroom that also opened two ways to a beautiful vista.
Now comes the food 9 courses at each sitting, and all tasty to eat. Just amazing amounts of exquisite tucker.
The crew the cooks the bar staff and the guide are all first class and end to every bodies needs.
The Dragon pearl is an adventure in wonderland.
A must for all ages.
Dragon live for ever and so will your dreams on the PEARL.

Our cruise was unfortunately cut short by an approaching typhoon. Not much you can do about that.
The boat is very comfortable and the perfect size. Not too big or small, had a great bunch of people to meet and experience the bay with. The part of the bay we visited was quieter and cleaner (I didn't notice much rubbish at all the entire trip). We kayaked at twilight which was a highlight. So tranquil. Unfortunately most other activities were cancelled due to the need to return early. Food was plentiful and very tasty. Crew were great.
We took the seaplane there, which lands at a different harbour, this wasn't a problem, the company organised for us to have lunch at a restaurant at the harbour and a transfer to meet the rest of the group at the other harbour. It was seamless. Go the seaplane if you can to get a real sense of the size of the bay, amazing (and better than the drive which we did on the way back, got stuck in traffic as everyone was leaving the Bay Area)
Refund was organised on the way back due to the change from 2N to 1N. Go 2Ns if you can, the bay is the highlight of the trip. I was interested in the 5star boat as I like my luxuries, but the size of this one makes it and the boat definitely did not disappoint. You will want to spend all you time on the loungers on the upper desks taking it all in. Windows from the bed were also great viewing when you wake up.

Having read so many positive reviews of the Dragon Pearl and the dinner in the cave in particular, my expectations were very high but I have to say the 3 day/2 night trip that my husband and I enjoyed in late September even exceeded those very high expectations!

The boat is beautifully appointed and surprisingly spacious with several areas to rest, read or mingle with other passengers. While the weather on our departure appeared ominous, we were blessed with magnificent sunshine for most of the journey during which we enjoyed several opportunities to go kayaking and swimming. On that note, do remember to take plenty of sunscreen - the kayaking trip on day 2 lasts a couple of hours and you are very exposed to the sun.

We enjoyed magnificent meals throughout and noted even the two vegetarians who were on the same trip were enjoying the same level of variety in their meals as the rest of us. No two dishes were ever the same. The dinner in the cave was a genuine highlight and a very special evening.

The journey between Hanoi and Halong Bay is long (around 4 hours), but the 'luxury mini van' with free wifi made the journey very pleasant and relaxing.

Thanks so much to 'Ha' our delightful tour guide, as well as Tony on the bar and all of the lovely crew. We will always treasure our time spent on the Dragon Pearl 1.

I'd like to say thanks to Captain, guide Tom and staff for looking after us for three days and two nights aboard Dragon Pearl 1. The chefs and staff served up the most amazing meals and were alway varied and tasty as were the cocktails. Guide Tom provided a good insight into the region and was always more than helpful and had an ever lasting smile.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and recommend for others up for something out of the ordinary.
