I found this hotel to be of top quality for the money, plenty of variety in the restaurant and the staff so very friendly. Not too far from the center where all the life is and only 5 mins in a tut tut for 100 Baht (approx £2) well worth the ride - just returned at end of March 2012 when the weather was really hot and humid but returning to the air conditioned hotel was sheer bliss - I spent some time travelling Thailand and the Empress was one of the best Hotels I stayed in.

This hotel was OK. A bit of a walk from the centre of Chiang Mai. The service was good and the room was clean and serviceable, but the whole hotel is a bit run down and could really do with updating.

stayed here two nights whilst travelling around Thialand and this was the best of the five hotels we made use of.
Food was excellent with wide choice of selections from the self service breakfast and eveneing buffets. Layout of hotel was ideal and rooms were of a high standard and size and would have been classed as a superior room by soom hotels. Only thing missing which stopped me giveing this 5 was that this was the only Thai hotel I encountered that did not provide tea & coffe making facilities in the room or a room safe for your passport etc.

The hotel is in a traditional Thai style and looks like it is straight from the 70s but nevertheless is very clean and tidy. The room was quite large with a view of the hills in the distance. The only complaint with the room was the air conditioning which was quite noisy even on low setting and needed to be turned off at night; this made the room quite warm. The hotel seemed to be aimed mainly at pensioners coach tours and entertainment is laid on to suit them.

The breakfast was average, with not much to suit western tastes. Whilst I like Thai food, I don't much fancy it early in the morning.

About 10mins walk to the night market but furtherthan it looks into the old town. Would suggest a taxi or tuk tuk if going there.

The staff were OK, but on checking out, the room key was taken off me without a word said. Quite rude.

This was such a beautiful hotel espacially after doing a trek for a couple of days.

The service, room, free breakfast buffet were excellent. The only thing I can complain about was that you had to pay for the internet by the hour which was a huge shock after staying at cheaper places where you would pay a small fee for the wifi password.

I didn't have any other meals at this hotel but the breakfast buffet was amazing with so many options.
