Didn’t stay there but had dinner in their restaurant. A bit pricey but overall quite good and very nicely presented dishes. Only the creme brûlée was under par, but... we are in Thailand, not France, and the dessert was saved by the multiple accompanying fruits! Service polite and quite efficient. Centrally located.

Location is good and staff very helpful with arranging trips. Breakfast is average. Rooms are spacious and good bathroom with a japanese toilet. Lack of hanging space is the only fault. Try to get a room away from the school if you like a lie in.

Room tip: avoid rooms next to the school if you like a lie in.

This is a lovely hotel with friendly staff but is set up for the Chinese market and may not suit Westerners. It is also being mis-sold by some booking sites.
The promised 'free mini-bar, restocked daily' consists of one single can of local beer, one cola and two juice boxes. The cola and juice boxes are restocked but the single beer isn't. The duty manager did agree to restock two beers for us when we complained but this is their standard policy.
The pool and sun loungers are in the shade for most of the day, and the pool demands that you must shower to remove sunlotion before swimming or risk a large fine.
At the time we stayed (October) the bar was largely unstaffed and building work was taking place on the sitting area. The pool table cracked and unplayable.
If booking one of the suites, also be aware that they have no balcony or view of the pool.

Room tip: High floor facing the pool

Namfon P, General Manager at Chala Number 6 Hotel, responded to this reviewResponded 5 weeks ago

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you so much for your review to Chala Number 6 Hotel Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Your good reviews we will take it to be our encouragement and some of comment that we need to improve ,we will hurry to handle them.

However, May I explain you on behalf of Chala Number 6 Hotel's Team as following.

1. " Free- mini-bar" : hotel provide free minibar for our customer every room types and every day. Top Management Team got the report that some customer requested adding one more beer because we provide one single beer to mini bar fridge for free and they referred that they stay 2 person. We are afraid that if we accept every requesting from customer, we might not have our standard operation procedures. Each hotel has their own policy of inventory, it might not be the same.

2. " The pool table cracked and unplayable" : We apologize for this inconvenience. It's broken because last mid night one of our customer sat on the pool table, hotel hurried to fix it in the next morning and now it can be played. We put the sign on the pool table, it's polite notice that please do not sit on the pool table. We ensure you that this situation will not happen again.

Thank you again. We hope you will give us a chance to improve our services and taking care of you in the future.

Sincerely,
Management Team.

The Chala Number 6 hotel in Chiang Mai is an oasis in the midst of the Old city. We arrived from the airport and were not impressed with the entry and the busy street it was on. Walking through to the back, though, you enter a quiet, green and charming space that is a wonderful respite from the hustle and bustle of Chiang Mai. The location was excellent within the Old City and convenient to nearly everything. This is crazy but the toilet is the most amazing thing I have ever seen! It has a heated seat and several options from drying to enema (!) and a bidet function.
I highly recommend this hotel. The breakfast was very nice, our room was spacious and quiet and the pool area was just beautiful.

Room tip: Upper floors are quieter.

Chala Number 6 is so pleasant inside. The courtyard is beautiful and filled with quirky art. Afternoon tea is delightful. The staff even let me try cooking the coconut pancake things! If you're looking for somewhere to relax and feel serene, this is the place for you. The room was nice, and they provided hats to wear and snacks. Every morning we'd hear the music from the adjacent school, but we were awake anyway. Plus, it was fun to see and hear all the kids. I'd love to go back!
