“avoid this hotel!”
Reviewed 19 December 2011

as a tourleader i stayed here many times These people that run the show are gredy for money. This hotel is too expensive 1800 baht per night. That is about 43 euro. Bathrooms are all smelly and dirty the swimmingpool is dirty, food is too expensive and low on quality. Location is perfect but better stayin sukhumvit area or in Silom district.
staff in Royal Hotel or Rattana Kosin as the Thai call it is Malaysian and unfriendly
The people that hang around near the the frontdoor is maffia. they want to sell a taxi that is 3 times the price,The same is going on with the travelagency.
Thai people dont stay here You wonder why?

Have stayed at this hotel on 3 occasions and each time has been enjoyable. The food is always awesome, the rooms well air-conditioned, staff friendly and location is very good. The prices have varied over the years but have never gone up too substantially. I've always enjoyed my stays here.

A very tired hotel in need of a re-vamp. However, in an excellent location for many Bangkok sites, so tolerable for a couple of nights.
The room we had was in need of decoration and the furniture old. However, it was clean and the bed was comfortable enough.
Breakfast was very average and the restaurant poor.
Was supposed to spend another night there a few weeks later, however the hotel was threatened by floods, which might do it a favour if it got it re-decorated!

This is not a modern hotel. We stayed one night as part of a tour. It has a gloomy old faded colonial feel. An easy walk to the Grand Palace, Reclining Buddha etc. No mass transit system nearby. The pool did look awful and was not used. Very noisy during the night. Breakfast OK, but glad to leave.

We only stayed in the Royal hotel for a couple of nights.
The hotel is in desperate need of a refurb. The rooms are dark and dated, though clean.
Theres a couple of restaurants in the hotel, which aren't worth the money. We went to the Chinese they had there paying 700฿ for the meal and didn't eat it.

The location is great, right by a 7/11 and many food vendors. Just a short 5 minute walk to the Khaosan Road where there's loads of bars, restaurants, shops, food vendors!
It's also right by the Grand Palace and other tourist places.

Apart from the location there isn't anything good to say about the Royal Hotel. Maybe ok for a night or two?!
