During a 3 week trip around Thailand and Cambodia, we stayed here 3 times for a total of 9 nights. The standard single rooms are a good size with comfortable double beds, proper bath, fridge and TV. The housekeeping was faultless - everything was kept spotless with nice big bathtowels provided fresh every day. The rooms are a bit dark, being tiled in dark brown - I felt the urge to throw open the curtains and let in some light. Some of the rooms (10th floor) have very shallow 'designer' washbasins in the bathroom - so if you want to rinse out your smalls, it's can be a problem. Rooms on the other floors have normal wash basins: good views from floors 11 and above.

The only problem with the hotel is the incompetence of the reception staff: it took 4 of them about 20 minutes to complete our checking in process. You have to pay for your room in advance and also leave a 100 baht cash deposit for your room key (refundable when you check out). The reception staff would be more efficient if they had a better understanding of English as this is the language used by most of the guests. Although Europeans were in the minority, visitors from India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan etc all use English as their 'international' language. We found that the girls collectively found it difficult even to communicate that they didn't serve beer before 5pm. Fortunately we had a Thai speaker in our group but even so we had little confidence that our room reservation requests were understood and acted upon.

The breakfast melee needed patience, especially if you wanted eggs as these were in great demand. Seats were often also hard to find at breakfast time, however there was unlimited coffee. The food from room service is fine - we used it a couple of times when arriving at times when local restaurants were closed.

The location is excellent, close to the skytrain and with lots of local roadside restaurants in the soi next to the hotel and also across the main road (use the footbridge). The hotel has some good maps available free in the lobby. The massage place 2 doors from the hotel is good, 200 baht for an hour's foot massage or Thai massage.

Room Tip: Cityscape views from floors 11 upwards especially the even numbered rooms. these are less noisy too.

Stayed for 7 nights, everything went well expect for breakfast, as you have to grab what you see, or you don't see the food anymore, because kitchen control the flow of food buy cutting cost these things happen, it's not staff fault but management. Reception staff are ok but not polite or friendly , house keeping did the best job overall, and taxi driver from hotel is excellent, as I have to pick up a friend from airport at 2 am in the morning and driver drove cautiously and with a smile. Overall you pay for what you get.

Room Tip: Get Internet password for the length of your stay so you don't need to get them everyday

We stayed at Bangkok city hotel for 3 nights and found that it was brilliant value for money. Easy to access from the airport with the train and from there a 50 bhat tuk tuk ride to the hotel. The hotel staff were both friendly and helpful. The room was clean, big, and very quiet. A perfect retreat after long hot days of sightseeing! The pool on the 5th floor has a great view of the city. There are computers that guests can use for free in reception and the included breakfast is of good quality.

We were skeptical about the location of the hotel but it was perfect. Tuks tuks are a must to get anywhere in Bangkok and it takes no more than ten minutes (100 bhat) to get to major tourist attractions such as the grand palace. Having stayed one night on Khao San road for a similar price we realised nothing came close to the peaceful, relaxing, and quiet atmosphere that we found in Bangkok city hotel.

TIP: Carry a map and address of the hotel with you as many taxi/tuk tuk drivers didn't know where it was

Its a tower hotel, with floors and floors of rooms. We got one on 15th floor - clean room, great bathroom, nice view - all good. The location is great - BTS is a 3 minute walk and you can zoop to anyplace in bangkok with it (adv: no traffic!!). The breakfast was decent but there were stock outs since there are so many folks in the hotel all coming in at same time. Another good thing - taxi to Airport at 400B - i think the deal was great.

All in all, recommended.

Hotel is very easy to reach from the airport using the airport rail link. Walking distance to MBK and Siam Centre and taxis, tuk tuks etc readily available. The rooms are large, modern and clean - kettle provided but need to supply your own coffee/tea. There is a 7/11 a few doors away for snacks etc. Breakfasts serve a selection of Thai and Western food but make sure you eat before 9.15 am, otherwise there is not much to choose from. Reception staff and travel agent were helpful and friendly. Big, clean pool and laundry were a bonus. Enjoyed our 3 night stay !!
