“Great staff and great coffee!”
Reviewed 6 October 2011

This hostel is in a great location, pretty out of the way but close to the bus station and Wat Po/Grand Palace. It is not by the skytrain, so you may spend a little more on taxis.

Very clean, comfortable and trendy. They have a great breakfast and the staff are more than willing to help you plan some parts of your trip.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great. The bathroom on the third floor is the best.

On this, my first trip to Bangkok I followed trip advisor reviews to the Niras Bankoc. There are many pluses: an interesting building, a very helpful and accomodating staff, an incredibly clean building - rooms and bathrooms - good coffee, and central to the attractions of "old" Bankoc.
The challenge for the hostel is its identity. I stayed in a single room that was advertised as with a "skylight". The "skylight" was a narrow cutout that leaves and wood largely covered. The room itself ($40 a night) was comfortable but dimly lit. Good tv reception and a/c were pluses but the bathroom (as advertised) was in the hall which was never an issue.
On my last night I moved to the 4 bed dorm which I found even more comfortable and great value - with better lighting - at $13 a night.
The guests were a mixed group; lots of solo travelers but, unfortunately since noise carries, the small public lounge area attracted revelers (back from drinking) at late hours, despite the efforts and edicts of the hostel.
breakfast: good, eggs, coffee, sausage, juice but with only two choices a long term guest might like variety (e.g., fruit, yogurt etc) Service was great on all occasions and the staff accomodating.
There are loads of good eateries within a short walk of the hostel, but no nightlife (not even a bar) which is fine with a "mature" traveler like me.
The hostel is an architecturally interesting building so I wish there was more showcasing of it by the staff, but perhaps Thai modesty prevents it. Good vibe and I would recommend it with the above caveats.

Room Tip: If traveling solo the private room is not as good a value as the small dorm at 1/3 the price!

Dear valued guest,

First of all, thank you very much for choosing our hostel as 1st time in Bangkok and we feel very honored. We were really appreciated to welcome a true World explorer like you who are really looking for the real soul of the city.
Thank you for the comments regarding our distinctive character, as we are concept hostel, every nostalgic details from room decor ,bathroom, lobby and lighting in the room are the unique style which is specially designed under the theme of 19th century Bangkok townhouse.Terribly sorry that lighting might be a bit dim for you.
Thank you for constructive review for our service & breakfast and we will try to improve our service to excellence .
Lastly, thank you very much for honest reviews full of vivid details.
Hope to welcome you next time in Bangkok.
Best regards,
Niras Bankoc team

We loved Niras Bankoc. The hostel itself is a lovely building, and the cafe downstairs has yummy breakfast for cheap. The staff we SO helpful with everything, and we had a room made up every day, plus towels. We stayed in a Standard Private room, with a great aircon that keeps the room nice and chilled. A smallish room, but for less than $30 night between two, I expected much worse.
The location is great, close to heaps
of street vendors and restaurants, and a 15 minute walk MAX To Khao San Rd if you want to get into the touristy vibe. Would recommend anyone of any age to stay here! We will be back! Thanks guys!

we loved it, really clean rooms and bathrooms in a beautifully renovated historical building.

the staff was super helpful in helping us to figure out what we wanted to do and how we wanted to do it.

Cleanest hostel I've ever stayed in for sure.

24 hour security is also a plus

The staff is really nice and helpful. The room, although small, was very clean. The only thing I would say is the other guests are so noisy that it Preventd me from sleeping at times. Good thing I had ear Plugs with me. Overall , great location and service, excellent wifi connection and clean bathrooms I would definately go back.

Dear valued guest,

Thank you for taking time to leave us your comments and good rating.
It's very pleasure to welcome both of you in Bangkok.
Regarding loud and disturbing behaviour in that night, we would like to apologize you for the group of drunken guests in our common room. We already warned them four times .However, it will be the great lesson for the next time to have more strict rule to prohibit it.

Hope to welcome you again next time.Happy travels!
Best regards,
