Having read about the good reviews of this hotel i thought to give it a try. Overall pretty good and stayed for 5 nights. Like the river taxi and the view of the river awesome. Also worth paying for club level. However, there are some hiccups along the way. Booked through their website a month plus for upgraded room for club level and also BMW transfer at airport. No show of transfer and was told I did not booked it..strange it was reflected in the confirmation email which I showed it to them...and was hold up for almost 30 mins at airport and got another transfer which have to pay for it.
Checked into the room for club level it was not clean on the floor and kinda stench smell. So they changed to another room though clean but still have the smell which i gave feedback to the staff.
However, the staff at the club was very attentive, patient and courteous and fantastic view on the club level floor. Overall it was pretty pleasant and comfy hotel.

I have business today in Bangkok 3 times a year and used to stay in the centre for pratical reasons. This is the first time I move down the river and try out this wonderful hotel. It will take you like 15' minutes to go to the city by boat, but if you are not too busy even the back and forth trip centro - hotel is very enjoyable. I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel for wonderful staff esp. the concierge, for beautiful spacious room, for top notch breakfast buffet and all the rest. Willing to give this establishment 5+ stars!

We stayed twice at the Chatrium at either end of our Thai/Laos trip. First night we arrived around 10pm after long flight from Aust and then taxi ride to hotel.

Check in was extremely efficient and you get escorted to your room where they show you the features, not sure if this is entirely necessary bu nice nevertheless. Room was a river view suite which provided stunning views over the harbour by night and an even more spectacular light show a few hours later with an electrical storm. We left our balcony door open all night and at that time of night little noise drifted our way.

Beds are extremely comfortable with wonderful pillows that make for a great nice sleep. Used the well equipped gym the following morning followed by breakfast sitting outside on the terrace. Adequate food choices which was a great start to the day.

Shuttle boat to the train station wharf or if you prefer can jump on another boat and head for the palace, reclining budda etc. We returned late afternoon for a swim and freshen up before heading back to airport for late flight to Chang Rai.

Second visit was very similar though we did have room service which was pretty ordinary and quite expensive. Should have walked out the main door and headed out into the neighbourhood but it was late and son was tired. Next mornings breakfast made up for it as again tasty selection, this time sitting inside to escape the flies outside.

Spent our last day shopping before heading back mid afternoon for another swim in their magnificent pool and an iced tea before usingt their shower facilities for a quick freshen up before heading to airport for late flight.

Overall service was very good and highly recommend - it is like an oasis in the middle of a large bustling city especially late afternoon at the pool when the sun lowers and a lovely breeze comes up, cool drink in your hand and feet dangling in the pool.

Tip, when heading out in a taxi from the hotel always make sure they have the meter on before you leave. Some of the taxi drivers will try and tell you their meter does not work but if you tell them to stop and let you out, it is like magic, the meter will start!!

Room Tip: ask for a river view room, there are ones on the side which gives you a nice view down the river but...

The view from this hotel is absolutely superb. We had a river view room (two bedroom suite) that was very spacious and nicely decorated. The beds and linen are excellent and we woke up refreshed every morning.

We thoroughly enjoyed the pool, both the size and how it is placed with a view of the river Chao Praya. But you should not go there hungry, as the prices in the pool restaurant are very high. The breakfast was very international with food from all continents and with a spectacular setting next to the river. We also had the buffet one evening (same restaurant as the breakfast)and that was equally good with a great variety of choices.

Getting to the Bangkok city center is no problem. The hotels ferry shuttle takes you to Saphan Taksin every 15 or 30 minutes (schedule is provided when you check in). From Saphan Taksin you can take the SkyTrain or the public river boat to where you want to go.

The hotel is located within a guarded property in a garden, so it is very peaceful and quiet. You definitely do not feel that you have a busy city just around the corner. There is a spa, 711, Starbucks and Japanese restaurant just outside the hotel doors. If you walk up to the gate (approx. 300 meters) you are smack in the middle of a Bangkok neighborhood, with amongst other things a huge local marked.

Room Tip: River view is a must

Stayed at the Chatrium last week (14th - 17th April 2012. As a frequent traveller to Bangkok on business, this was the first time as part of a holiday. I have to say the quality of rooms and service was faultless. We were upgraded to a river view room without asking. We made considerable use of the free ferry to the BTS station running every 15 minutes or so. In fact the river became our most used form of transport whilst we were there.

We had a small problem when we arrived as it was about 7.00am. Knowing we would be very early I booked and paid for an early check in. THe hotel didn't seem to know anything about it but when they realised corrected the position immediately. If you are arriving in Bangkok in the early morning make sure you book something in which to recover or you could spend many hours homeless and tired

Room Tip: Early check in will pay off
