We decided to stay at Ariyasomvilla because we wanted a change from the large hotels we
have been staying in in Bangkok so far. The atmosphere and authentic thai features are wonderful, we also enjoyed the personal service and attention we were given by staff. We stayed in a deluxe room and it was great especially the bathroom was a real feature. However the comfort of the bed left much to be desired it was more like a futon and both my husband and I woke up every morning with back and/or neck aches. Personal taste perhaps. The dinner at the restaurant was absolutely delicious but the breakfast was a bit limited after being used to breakfast buffets. Especially for my husband and son who love their bacon and sausages in the morning. The pool is great as is the spa: my husband had one of the best Thai massages he ever had here. Try to make your own way from the airport to the hotel because the airport transfer we arranged through the hotel was very expensive: 1600 Baht which equates to about A$50, in comparison we took a taxi back to the airport from the hotel and paid only 300 Baht. (A$9). We probably won't stay here again based on the (dis)comfort of the bed and the breakfast.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms are lovely but have steep stairs so not suitable for families travelling with small chi...

Dear Zambookacat

Thanks for your review and thank you for your kind words on our service.

Just wanted to comment on the beds as this is the first negative comments we've had on our mattresses in four years. Our mattresses are pocket spring ( 20 cm thick) and are medium firm and have always until now been much appreciated. Just sorry that you didn't find them comfortable.

With only 24 rooms we do not offer a breakfast buffet but our breakfast menu is very extensive. Sometimes it's nice to be waited on rather than jumping up and down all through the meal.

Many thanks for your comments and best regards

David

Loved this hotel - small, intimate, and welcoming! Rooms were beautiful with great aesthetic and comfy beds. Our 2 rooms were not noisy (other than the morning roosters) and we thought the location was great. Staff was friendly and helpful - arranged for whatever we needed. Would definitely stay here again in lieu of big chain hotels.

We selected this hotel as our last night of rest before catching our flight back home following 3 weeks of traveling around Thailand having got married in Koh Samui a few weeks earlier. We had to change rooms almost immediately after our original room (105) developed a mini waterfall from a leak above the ceiling. Not that this was a major issue and the alternative room offered was adjacent, I was unsure how this wasn't spotted originally.

The second room (104) had a leaking tap from the bath which overflowed and ruined a book. I should have advised the owner/maintenance team, but quite frankly I was there to rest rather than provide a list of snaggs in the rooms.

We went for some relaxation by the pool which suffers from the river behind, it doesn't smell that great and naturally brings with it flies, mozzies etc. I didn't enjoy hanging around the pool for this reason which is a shame as the setting within the gardens with the spa is quite pleasant.

The restaurant food is fantastic and we noticed quite a few people not staying at the hotel coming for the dinner. This has it's benefits, obviously there is repeat local business, however when one particular "guest" arrived and proceeded to cover all exposed skin with the free citronella on offer in the restaurant, to put it mildly it did annoyed me somewhat as I couldn't taste any of the food thereafter. It was quite inconsiderate and spoiled the evening for me.

That said, if you're a vegetarian then you will be very happy eating here (I'm a meat eater and enjoyed the food, until I started chewing on citronella of course.

We had our dinner here but the drinks (cocktails) are not that great, I've had better on the street from vendors. We ordered a small slice of some freshly made quiche and was surprised to see it on the bill at 180 baht. Anyway, the staff are fantastic here and they are always on hand to refill your water. At breakfast they brought out fresh juice and fruit without having to either ask or search the room for it - a nice touch which costs nothing.

Finally as previous reviews have highlighted, the location is not that great, plenty of arab "health tourists" visiting the local hospital up the road and a mini middle east (where we had tried to get away from for the 3 weeks) around the corner. Head a few streets down outside the Macdonalds and you'll find gangs of african men up to no good smashed out of the heads of yaba intimidating passers by. Nice!

In summary I wouldn't stay here again, having recently stayed at 5 hotels over 3 weeks (none of which offered anything as little as a "wedding celebration - all of which knew we were there to get married/honeymoon, but maybe that how is goes nowadays) and with the Hansar being one of them, see my review, I would return there at the drop of a hat.

Dear DBX

Thanks for your review.

Apologies or the maintenance issues - leaks from the ceiling are normally the air-conditioning. It doesn't manifest itself immediately but indicates that the condensate drain is starting to block. Despite a regular preventative maintenance program sometimes this does happen ( very high humidity). Leaky taps at the bath are normally just the fact that the two way valve has not been pushed down properly. Anyway apologies for this - we will just have to be more vigilant on the maintenance.

I don't quite follow your remarks on the location. The" local hospital" is Bumrungrad International and is possibly the best private hospital in south east asia - lots of patients from all over the world. As you point out there is one road - Soi 3 ( further up Sukhumvit) that is like north africa / middle east . Having lived here for 20 years I have never been intimidated.

Bangkok is a big city - a little noisy, a little smelly a little different but always exotic and fascinating and of course exciting.

Anyway, thanks for all your comments - we take them all seriously and use them to push us on. Wishing you all the very best .

We stayed here on the frist night of our honeymoon. We arrived to find flowers on our bed and our tub floating with flowers. The location is great right off the sky train! We enjoyed the beautiful horizon pool. Our stay was rounded out with an amazing breakfast in the morning!!!

Our first room was quiet, near the gardens. The hotel was so lovely that we extended our stay so that we could relax and take a rest before our midnight flight back to the states. Since our room was already booked, they moved us to a lovely suite, over looking the canal. It was a perfect end to our vacation.

Please note, however, that if you are a light sleeper, you may not want to be near the canal since you can hear the motor boats passing regularly.

The food in the hotel restaurant is quite good, especially the homemade desserts.
