We stayed here for a night before and after our trip to Bhutan. Amongst flight delays, city tours and strikes we returned many times to the guest house, each time feeling safe and welcomed. We spent many hours in the garden and restaurant enjoying chats with the hotel manager, the restaurant chef and friendly staff. We appreciate their eco-conscious approach in running the hotel and their use of organic ingredients in their food. We had many meals here and they were the best food we had on our entire trip. Rooms are basic but the architecture is authentically lovely. It's a convenient location in the Old Town where you can see and feel the daily local life. Our fondest memory is the feeling of joy when we step into this oasis where we can hear ourselves think and experience a sense of serenity.

A lovely intimate hotel in the heart of the cafe culture area. We didn't have breakfasts in the hotel so cannot really comment .The room was spotlessly clean and serviced each day. I would call the decor "comfortably shabby chic" and all the more relaxing for being so. Another extremely "plus" point is the comfort of the mattress. Both my husband and I slept like logs - despite the noise from the street.

The hotel has great character. And if you're going to Kathmandu, don't you want the local architectural and cultural experience? The rooms were quiet, facing a courtyard. The garden grounds were a great place to relax from the Thamel crowds with a beer and some Newari food. There is a wonderful rooftop terrace my friend and I didn't find out about until the last night. A view of the full moon over Kathmandu valley. The location is superb: a quiet lane just a quick block from major streets. And just a couple blocks from busy Thamel. The only drawback is the lack of air conditioning but we were there in the beginning of June at the hottest, pre-monsoon time possible. That was our own fault. The fan was fine for keeping us cool except during the daytime power outages (generator was going at night). The staff was also very friendly and helpful. They made us feel very welcome.

The Kantipur Temple House is in the heart of Kathmandu, which means no need to sit in traffic to go shopping or restaurants. You will, however, need a driver to see the outlying temples. It is a quiet refuge in the midst of all the hustle and bustle and is built in the style of a local temple. If you are looking for character, clean environment, excellent food, lovely staff, this is the hotel for you. Do not stay here if you are a chain hotel kind of traveler and need modern amenities, like television. If you want an environment that captures the character Nepal, this is the place for you.

So I know Kathmandu quite well - I have stayed at the Hyatt, Dwarikas, Yak & Yeti. I would say that this hotel is a bit behind Dwarikas and Hyatt as a hotel but way better in terms of location. Hyatt and Dwarikas are really far away. Yak & Yeti is really more like Yuck & Yeti so Kantipur Temple House is really good. We stayed in two separate rooms but both were really high up - we were there for a total of one week.
Pro: LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION; Staff tries hard; Food is pretty good - though service is somewhat uneven; Very authentic Newari architecture;
Con: Internet connection is very poor (though to be fair, this is Nepal); rooms are dark; no stairs (ouch as we stayed on top floors); Rooms are comfortable, but not very comfortable. Value for money - it was quite expensive and there was nothing more than really really cheap soap as amenities.
