“Unexpected Surprise”

We recently had the pleasure of staying at this hotel for 3 nights and found it to be a very enjoyable pleasure. Staff were very helpful and remembered our likes and dislikes. Be careful of the conversion rate if you use a credit card. They convert all purchases to dollars at their conversion rate (18% penalty).

We stayed twice, before and after our Gorilla Trek and found it to be comfortable, clean and well equipped. The pool was nice after a hot and dusty drive back to Kigali. The cleaning crew was very busy during the night and early morning washing and polishing floors and the pool. There was painting being done on railings. The rooms had personal safes, AC, coffee makers provided. Free wifi was great too. The breakfast buffet had lots of choice, no complaints at all. Lasagna at dinner was some of the best we have ever had anywhere.

I recently stayed at the Lemigo Hotel for a few nights. Check in was swift and the room allocated turned out to be a suite.
While well furnished, a few 'finishing' issues as well as 'planning' issues emerged, which overall lessoned what would otherwise have been a good impression, though a distinct odour from the bathroom was lingering throughout my 3 night stay, inspite of opening the bathroom window and running the extractor fan.
Access to sockets was limited, having to even relocate the hot water kettle to the floor to make it work, as no socket on the main desk area was near enough to make it otherwise work. Hence, the good idea turned into a problem.
Likewise, to work on the desk and have a netbook, laptop or tablet plugged in was equally difficult, forcing one to chose to remove either the TV off power, or unplug the fridge or else look for a long extension cable. Same with the bedside tables, where in order to recharge a phone, or camera batteries, one has to unplug the bedside lamp - simply a lack of planning when the hotel was built.
Internet in the room worked via cable, but not well or not at all on wireless, and the same was the case in the restaurant, where not once I could connect. The IT chap tried and in the process managed to crash my browser ...
The food was plenty and varied, though on opening time on each day the staff needed reminding to remove the cellophane covers from the dishes BEFORE guests came to the buffet. The staff generally WAS friendly, or tried, though some not entirely fluent in English, yet their smiles and eagerness made up for that.
The hotel overall looks better than it performed and attention to maintenance and training of staff would surely address some of the issues I mentioned, though the sockets in the rooms are simply in short supply, full stop.

Room Tip: As there are no elevators, rooms on the same level as the reception are the easiest to reach.

This was the one hotel during my stay in Rwanda that really turned me off. The outside areas and exterior of the hotel are nice but the rooms could really use some improvement. That's not even what made this a huge disappointment. It was the service. Housekeeping and reception really need to take some courses in hospitality/hotel management. It took one hour to get a small 200ml bottle of water and towel after a long drive. I called reception to remind them politely and I got a lot of attitude. When I asked for another bottle of water the next morning for the coffee pot, I was told that I would have to pay for it and that I was only allotted one bottle of water per paid night and that the small bottle was to be used for drinking, the coffee pot AND brushing my teeth. I was told that this was the official response from the hotel manager. Are you for real?
There were also BED BUGS and the bathroom was moldy - could have really used a good scrub. The waiters at the restaurant barely speak English (not a huge deal, im in a foreign country i know) and the cocktails were at 5 star prices for this barely 3 star accommodation. At checkout, the receptionist threw the room keys on the desk with such disgust to indicate her dislike of our conversation over the water earlier that morning. Whatever.

Yes, its 10 minutes from the airport but there are plenty of other options.
I definitely would NOT stay here again. Rwanda is a great place and this hotel will give you the wrong impression of its people. I'm happy this was toward the end of my stay.
P.S. There's a nightclub operated in the hotel. Not a family place

Public R, General Manager at Lemigo Hotel, responded to this review, 27 March 2015
Please Excuse us for our late response to your feedback dated 2011. We completely understand your frustration and dissatisfaction. We have noted all your concerns and your bad experience during your stay and we sincerely apologize !!!

We have so far liaised with all relevant hotel departments to avert same problems in future. Not only have we trained our staff on good customer care, we are also doing preventive maintenance and our housekeeping department are doing their Utmost to ensure cleanliness and comfort through out the property.

We are currently extending a new hotel building with all facilities you would expect to find in a fine hotel. We will have guests lifts, service lifts, rooms and facilities for disabled persons, and all protocol will be observed. By 2016 , we hope to have complete this: Fumigation and pest control is being carried out regularly and bed bugs are now a thing of the past.

TIPS: Should you plan to come to stay at Lemigo Hotel or any of your friends, Better rooms are available at your request: Executive Rooms, Junior Suites, Executive Suites and Presidential Suites for your comfort. In the event where you are not satisfied with our services, Please do not hesitate to call our Duty Manager or even our General Manager if you are completely dissatisfied with any of our services.

Nice and clean rooms with aircondition and a pool. The hotel is close to the Umbano but not within walking distance to the city center. The staff is friendly and I would recommend this hotel for business travels only.
