“coconut island”
Reviewed 15 November 2009

we were unlucky to go to coconut island on a drizzly, windy day,but we didnt let it spoil things.we got the boat across to the island which is on the south coast,it was a 5-10 min trip and on arriving we were met with drinks and cool towels.we sat in the lovely big tents and our day was explained to us.you can either go snorkling, equipment is provided,or go on the glass bottom boat around by the marine park.you are only gone about an hour and when back dinner is served,a lovely dinner it is too,as much food and wine as you want.there is also time to walk round the whole island and at the ocean side what a contrast, massive waves!at the end of the meal the 2 guitarists come round the tables for requests and a good old sing song was had.the sea was so turquoise around the island and plenty of photos to be taken, and colourful birds flying about.

“Mauritus_Le Meridien...Excellent”
Reviewed 7 November 2009

Hi we visited Mauritius during last week of Nov 2009...we are a family with kid of 9 yrs.
We stayed at Le Meridien booked via Equino...
We took Mumbai – Mauritius – Mumbai Air Mauritius flight...Flight was ok..nothing much to complain about...Around 6 hrs flight.
We landed in Mauritius at about 9 am in the morning. The pick up from airport took around 1 hour as they were waiting for Emirates flight...I was really not happy with it.
We arrived at the hotel around 10 am and we were greated and sat in the bar / lobby area with a welcome cocktail whilst the paperwork was sorted out. Then shown promptly to our standard deluxe room which was on the ground floor in a 3 storey block close to the main part of the hotel. First impressions were good with a large bathroom and super king size bed, large flat screen tv, sitting room area and terrace overlooking sea which was not more than 20m away. Kid got a sofa cum bed to sleep on..
1. Beach

The beach is great - and very sandy. There were always enough sun loungers - even though hotel was full - and they were well spaced out. The water was warm enough to swim comfortably (25C) and reasonably clear. Quite a few fish but the coral is mostly dead. There is a cordoned off swimming area to keep the speedboats away.

Lovely soft beach towels were free, just need to be signed for.

On the land activities front, there is a table tennis table, volleyball and soccer areas.

Free water sports available were windsurfing (good kit, up to 5m rig, make sure you wear good water shoes), laser sailing dinghies, pedalloes and sea kayaks. Payable activities such as waterskiing and para sailing were also available, although there were free "taster" water skiing sessions every day . I did quite a lot of windsurfing and speed boats doing water skiing got a bit annoying but the strip between beach and reef wasn't that wide.

The boathouse staff tended to be a bit surly and could have been more helpful and enthusiastic at times, with the exception of the boss.

2. Pool

Long and thin, not very deep and somehow colder than the sea at this time of year (Aug), so didn't spend much time here. Could have been better and certainly ripe for redevlopment. We went for a walk to the Royal Victoria hotel next door and they had a huge pool which was at the heart of the hotel.

4. Penguin kids club

Excellent. We didn't think our kids would enjoy it but we couldn't keep them away! Lots of activities and the evening club let us have most dinners in peace. Staff were very patient and kind, and security and environment very good.

5. Food

Breakfast buffet was in the main 180 Degree restaurant, and they had just about everything covered (continental, cooked, Indian, German etc).

Dinner Excellent..One has option to eat at a) Varied buffets in 180 restaurant b) Cumin Indian restaurant c) la Faya Mediterranean restaurant .... One need to book for taking dinner at Cimin or La Faya...we mostly eat at Cumin...Food was good as it was prepared by Indian chef..
6. Water Activities...

Hotel Gives some free activities like Snorkelling, Glass Bottom Boat, Paddle Boat, Kaya Boat, water surfing, water skiing....for most of them you need to book at Boat House...Good activities..
a) Diving is expensive around 90$.... Good visibility and water at 23c was ok with shortie wetsuit. Nothing big but lots of small stuff. Some nice wreck dives. Even one who don’t know to dive was trained in the morning..
b) Local tour operator insist on
a. Underwater walk (MUR 1000 pp) – good experience.
b. Catamaran Cruize (MUR 255 pp) – we did not do it...people had mixed reviews about the same
c. Blue Safari Submarine (MUR 3700 pp) – Every one who did it was un-happy...nothing great...
d. Subscooter (MUR 3500 pp) – They say you will drive it, but u are only handling stearing...their person holds scooter from back and gives directions...even speed is nothing great...
e. Crocodile park and walk with lion – we did not tried...
Over all i would say it is better to enjoy the beach, water, resort...than doing paid activities...
7. Tour included in package...
South Tour ... Over all good...good to shop and do lots of bargain.
During your South trip you will be taken to the Floreal factory shop near the town of Curepipe. A visit at Le Trou aux Cerfs, an extinct crater right in the middle of the island, is a must, for it’s amazing views on neighbouring towns and vaste agricultural fields.
Following the trip to the sacred lake of Grand Bassin (Ganga Taloa), you will come across the biggest natural reservoir of the island, Mare Aux Vacoas. Not far from Grand Bassin is The Black River Gorges National Park view point.
You will then be charmed by the Chamarel waterfall and the unique Seven Coloured Earth of Chamarel.
Back to your hotel from the west coast where on the way you can discover the Tamarin Salt marsh.
North Tour ... Not good at all...Dont waste your day...better stay at hotel or hire a scooter and enjoy.
Visit the capital of Mauritius, where you will discover the fragrances and the spicy smell of the typical market of Port Louis.
Not far away from the market is Le Caudan Waterfront, a place for the whole family. This shopping centre offers a wide range of activities such as: Movie theatres, casino, boutiques, craft markets, and a lot of restaurants offering all sorts of international cuisines.
On your trip to the north you will have a unique experience discovering the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden and the wide variety of indigenous plants, trees and some endangered species. One of the guides will be glad to guide you through the green paths and give some typical information about our famous ‘Talipot’ tree and their blooming flowers every 100 years and the famous Waterlily.
L'ile aux Cerfs ... Excellent beach...they will ask for lots of add ons or paid activities don’t take they are not work...
This is without a doubt the most beautiful beach found on an outer island 5-10 minutes (boat trip) away from the main land. Once on the island, you will feel only a sheer pleasure.
A lot of activities are available on the island: Speed boat trips and Banana rides - kayaking and Parasailing.
L'ile aux Cerfs also has 2 restaurants and a new professional golf course.

A trip can also be organised to Grande-Rivière-Sud-Est Waterfall in a speed boat.

1. Stock up with water, beer and snacks at the Max shop 300m up the road

2. Ask for a ground floor room.

3. Change money at Airport...as they give best rates...

4. Hired a scooter from the hotel (700 rupees) and went to the Botanic Gardens 30 mins away, which were very impressive. Worth getting a guide for 50 rupees per person. Also did the coast road up to Grand Baie which was a nice drive.

One of the best family holidays we have ever had - everyone enjoyed it.

“Mauritius Fabulous Island of the Indian-Ocean”
Reviewed 6 July 2009

I've been to Mauritius 4 times already during the past 3 years . Very nice people , nice food , nice places to visit . But ..... it all depends on which tour - operator you book your stay and excursions !!! Some sell only limited excursions and accomodations ; and a few , actually only one to my knowledge , will cater to your every whims and wishes . They are also the only one who organises packages for those who are searching for a more adult type vacations , like the Hedonism of Jamaica . [--] . But apart from that , i was extremely satisfied with their level of service and most of all , their HONESTY and Dedication to give full satisfaction to the client .
