Hotel Coimbra is centrally located in a very quiet and safe area of Bissau. The hotel provides full board and it has a restaurant with a very good variety of meal options in the ground floor. Airport shuttles and other transportation can be arranged. The staff is amazingly friendly and helpful in sorting out other services needed (i.e. cash exchange)

The hotel is safe and well located. Staff is good. The transfer to/from hotel always work and you have a cold bottle of mineral water waiting for you in the fridge. The wifi barely works in peak hours but electricity is stable. When it comes down, the generator is immediately turned on. The shower works and the water is clean (don't drink, of course). In general you feel good at Coimbra. The breakfast is not good but has mineral water, bread, cake and butter. I just get annoyed sometimes with quite a number of cockroaches and other strange local bugs I find in its rooms after a hard day of work. But you get over that when your "doing-business-in-remote-places" mode is on. :-)

Room Tip: I have heard you should ask for reformed rooms.

I generally agree with the previous reviews. I would like to add that the historic building where the hotel is located is quite charming and quaint. The suites are modern and spacious (I would highly recommend them over regular rooms). The buffet style restaurant is one of the best eating destinations in town. It is very popular with locals as well as with foreign residents and visitors. The hotel is strategically located near the old historic downtown, the port, and the city business center. There are a number of nice restaurants nearby at walking distance (including across the street). The multilingual staff is extremely professional, friendly, and helpful. They are always eager to answer your questions and find solutions for issues that may arise. I've stayed there twice now and would stay there again on future trips top Guinea-Bissau.

I would say its like a guest house not a hotel, Rooms are old but every thing was working. Breakfast is dinner was okay. There is small restaurant in front of this hotel which is bit expensive but food was fresh and okay. I saw some other good looking hotels in town but i observed that most of the outsiders preferring this hotel.

I picked Coimbra Hotel because of its good rating and central location. Not knowing much about Bissau going in, I'm glad I made the right choice. Coimbra is a small oasis in the center of a very basic city. Here's what made it stand out for me:

Location: Right next to the cathedral and near the main sights for tourists (though there aren't really many tourists).
Facilities: The hotel has everything you can need in the city including a gym, spa, turkish bath, terrace to relax, and even conference rooms for business events.
Restaurant: Great restaurant with international selection of food which is popular with locals and hotel guests. Fun buzz going on in the evenings.
Rooms: The rooms are basic, but have a charm to them especially with the large balconies overlooking the city.

Overall, this is a great choice for Bissau and I would definitely stay again!

Room Tip: Ask for the top floor with a balcony
