WoW !!!
My boyfriend asked me to accompany him on a business trip to Ghana. Not too convinced about the destination my boyfriend treated me to what turned out to be the most amazing trip in my life
Despite trips to the Caribbean Mexico Morrocco and Thailand.
This place is quite amazing!!
We were greeted at the airport and were given a cold face towel and a cool drink (believe me it was really welcomed after the sudden heat when you come out of the plane)... before we boarded a BMW X5 and drove thru the city at night for what seemed to be a never ending trip.
Going thru miles of darkness we finally arrived to what seemed to be
Paradise . We were met by Daryl a Phillipino in charge of reception who introduced us to our butler who had been assigned to us ... After a welcome drink we were escorted to our Room which is more of a chalet
And this is where the DREAM started... We were ushered thru this enormous room super well appointed with Designer Guild bedcovers curtains & furnishings .
Our butler suggested to unpack our luggage and while we were discovering the surroundings, the private garden with a most welcoming plunge pool, a waiter appeared with a platter of assorted savouries and a fresh fruit platter to die for...
Our butler suggested for us to either have dinner at the Yellow Fin Restaurant or have an in Room Dining. We opted for the latter...
Within minutes aided by our butler two waiters appeared and within minutes our table was set up in the garden ... candles were scattered thru out the garden and our butler asked us about our preferences...
We both opted for the seafood menu...OMG!!!! What a treat ... It was a non stop array of culinary experiences .... It started out with a Prawn soufflé amuse bouche then a seared carpaccio of mullet with Asian hints ...and this went on & on
With a lobster with passion fruit glaze ..., and then the desert appeared... A symphony of colors , flavors, an assault to the senses ...
We ended up with a bottle of Billecart in the pool ....,
After a short night of a super comfortable sleep due to a combination of a long flight a pantagruellic dinner and ... Hmmm!!! I drew the curtains open to discover the most amazing view over the bay and miles of deserted beaches with swaying coconut ...
A perfect picture postcard...
Our Chalet was hanging on the edge of a cliff ... Our garden was definitely a piece of heaven and we seemed to be alone in Paradise....
Our Butler Abiola appeared and the dream continued... Breakfast was served at the Red Snapper restaurant down on the beach a never ending feast from the in house viennoiseries to the variety of tropical juices ....
And this went on & on during the
10 days we spent in this Tropical Paradise
A MUST TO THE MOST DISCERNING TRAVELLER...

I will admit, it's far from Accra and way off the beaten path. You go through some real rural areas before you get to this place. But, when you eventually get there, my my, my what a beauty! No wifi! It's a place of relaxation, quiet, good food, and impeccable service. They went out of there way to make sure my husband and my two boys were happy. Nice pool area, spa was still being built, and beaches were ok. A little obstacle course to get to the beach. The property over looks beach but is not beach front. We stayed in a family suite on the main property because it was closer to all the amenities. The place is truly a diamond in the rough. Will save up my pennies to come back here one day.

This resort is beautiful, spacious, well laid out & very clean. In between the resort & the beach is a lagoon which you cross by rope ferry & in which local people fish. What I don't get is the relationship between the resort & the local people that permits such a build up both in the lagoon & the beach of large quantities of litter, it spoils what could come close to Caribbean environment, strong breezes keep down the temperature & humidity, wide whitish sands BUT you wouldn't swim in the sea!!

I stayed here for 2 nights on a Friday and Saturday evening. We travelled from Accra airport on a Friday evening, and it took over 2 hours to arrive - if is some way. It is not easy to find, and on arriving the layout is quite confusing. The reception is in one place, and our accommodation was in a separate building, a 5 minute golf kart trip away. We stayed in the villa. The room was very big, but a bit shoddy, some maintenance is needed. There is no television or Internet on site, so you have plenty of time to relax. We played some tennis, but again the court needs some maintenance, as there was a dangerously skiddy patch which ruined the game. The beach and the main pool are excellent, and the service was very attentive. Reaching the beach is an interesting experience, being pulled across a river by a manual pulley operated device - we even saw a crocodile! Could be top class with some extra care and some improved facilities (gym for one thing). Recommended for a couple of days chill in the sun.

Some friends and I decided to go to White Sands to get away from the city for a birthday celebration. We brought a birthday cake from Accra that was made for the birthday girl. The slow disaster of terrible customer service started before we even got into the gate. At first they told us the taxis must wait outside. We started unloading all our bags, cake, etc. Then the security guard changed his mind and allowed the taxi to come in. We went to the front desk to pay the $24 USD entrance fee (I thought it was illegal to denominate things in US currency in Ghana). I can understand a fee for a nice beach resort. Not a big deal but the first thing they told us was that we could not bring the cake in that we carried all the way from Accra. I can understand a "no food from outside" rule, but we were 4 people who just paid $24 each and were clearly prepared to spend much more on food and drinks before we ate our cake. The explanation was that they sell cakes there. Ok, so we offered to buy a cake. "Oh, we don't have any cakes today." Ok so let us bring out cake in. Finally it was offered that we could pay a 200 Cedi entrance fee for the cake. Silly, We left the cake at the front desk and went in.

The place is beautiful. I wish whomever put so much passion into the grounds also put passion into customer service. We too the little raft to the beach and settled into some nice beach chairs right in front of the beach. I asked for some towels, but they did not come. Eventually a guy came and said we could have some towels for a $25 deposit each. So we paid $24 to get in and now they are so sure that we are towels thiefs that we have to pay a deposit. We opted for not towels. Beers and drinks came in normal time but when my calamari salad was ready, the waiter told me I would have to go to the restaurant to eat it. There were 5 of us relaxing by the beach but I would have to go to the empty restaurant to eat my food. I argued but the guy would not budge. So I told him to pack the food to go. He brought me the food pack but refused to bring a fork. So I at the calamari salad with my fingers thinking, "Wow, this place is awesome! Not"

After we had been there for 2 hours are were properly starving, we decided to order some more food but were told that the kitchen was closed. It was 4pm. What kitchen closes at 4pm? We asked about the kitchen at the pool and were told it closes at 5:30 or 6. We paid the beach food and drink bill, which was of course missing an item so that the waiters could pocket the cash. Normally I would have told them to put it on the bill to save the management the loss, but after the service we had received so far, I felt no sense of loyalty to the management.

So we packed up and went to the pool. It's very beautiful with amazing grounds. We asked about food and we told the kitchen closes at 5:30. It was 4:45. So we asked for a menu. After a while the waiter came back and told us that the kitchen was closed. No food. I asked if there was a pizza delivery place nearby because we were all now starving. "Oh, you can't bring food from outside." He also told us that the pool was also about to close and he was doing us a favor to bring cushions for the chairs for us. I asked how we would eat if we were guests in the resort. We were told that there is a dining room but it's really for members only and they would charge us just to get in. We all though, "Who would want to pay for a membership at a place that treats people like this?" I guess people with too much money and no sense.

Anyway, we swam for a few minutes then packed up, took our cake, and left to go eat at Kokrobite Garden. We brought our own Champagne in and were happily given proper crystal glasses to drink it out of, with no extra charges. We will be laughing about the absurdity of White Sands for many years to come.
