Highlight of my African trip!!
Cradle of Mankind, Australopithecus afaransis, Lucy,Laetoli Footprints, Homo erectus and “Out of Africa” single theory, Louis and Mary Leakey- still in awe for the archeologists past and present
The Museum was one of the best I’ve visited anywhere- very well done
Educationally unbeatable!
Full marks!!

While traveling to the Serengeti, this is a worthwhile stop to catch up on some historical perspective on the origin and evolution of mankind. It is amazing to get informed and also see some exhibits regarding what happened a million years ago. The museum and the gorge (great views) are well organized and presented.

Allow time to read the explanations of the artifacts, and also to listen to the presentation outside where you can see the various layers of sediment where the discoveries were made. The museum is new, and its explanations reflect the newest thinking about our complex human origins.

The historical significance cannot be underestimated and I specifically added the Olduvai Gorge to my itinerary. I was disappointed that the closest you could get was a viewing platform and a rather tedious lecture.

The museum was well presented but the fact that you are unable to walk through the gorge was disappointing and the money for entrance was not worth it.

Considering the significance of fossils discovered here, it would be crazy not to visit the place. Just looking around and imagining our ancestors roaming here a few million years ago is worth it.

New museum is excellent, even if it contains many replicas. The lecture/lunch amphitheater offers great views over the gorge.
