We did the 6 day Machame route and used Focus In Africa. Good varied route to use. Be prepared for hot days and cold nights. Summit night very very cold! They had a great guide who along with the rest of the team looked after us really well. Couldn't fault them at all. Great experience all round.
Also used them to organise a safari afterwards and again all ran very soomthly with a good driver / guide.
Recommened them totally.

We took a trek up to Mt.Kilimanjaro in December 2011 through Gap Adventures but, stayed at Springdale hotel. As we understand , the trip was organized by Zara Tours company. I am writing this letter to express our gratitude. The service staff at Moshi, Springdale hotel was fabulous. They demonstrate care and professionalism. I avail this opportunity to express our personal gratitude to our guide Mr.Colman Temba and his team for incredible leadership and dedication to customer care. We would never make to the summit with their help. As head guide Mr.Temba exhibited many of the qualities that are essential to a successful climb. The team worked in such a harmony that our expedition turned into a dream of a life time. We like to thank you all for wonderful hospitality and professional service.
Yours truly,
Dr.Naimul Lodi

We booked the 7 day, Machame Route with Akaro Tours based on our friends Silvia and Dennis who traveled with them last May (see review below!). We were very pleased with their service and with our choice of the 7 day Machame Route!

Our guide was knowledgeable, the food was simple yet tasty (and there was lots of it!), our tent didn't leak, and the price was right. Plus we summitted!

We are very glad we booked directly through Akaro as it is a Tanzanian owned company, so not only did we get to save money by skipping the middle man, the money we paid stays in Tanzania instead of going to some foreign owned company. And really? The people who paid $3000/person are getting the exact same food, same campsites, same everything as we who paid less than half of that. Everybody is in the same boat on the mountain, regardless of fees.

Choose the 7 day route, we could never have done it in 6. You'll be in for an absolutely BRUTAL 4th day if you choose 6 days! And choose Akaro!

we travelled with Albatros tours and we loved it! I totally recommend the 7 day macheme route, anything shorter and you will struggle to get to the top. as you will not have enough time to acclimatize and to be honest it is a bit of a walk from baranco camp to kakaranga camp without going all the way up to base camp and then carrying on the top. please remember even with the 7 day/6night macheme route you will walk for 15 hours on summit day! 6 hours of it in -10/-20 degrees) and the rest of it step scree down hill. owch,

Totally recommend the trip (I still managed it to the top even with a grade 1 calf strain) which i did the week before travelling, it was fine going up but going down was really difficult and had to be carried someway down the scree as i could not stretch out my leg.

take the risk and do it! AMAZING challenge experience.

Climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in January 2012 with ClimbKili. The guides, the cook and the porters (and everyone who helped us get up the mountain) were amazing. The attention and care they gave us were more than I expected, especially during the summit climb. They really did everything they could to make it as easy as possible for us. There were some mishaps with the rental equipment before the climb, but the guide figured it out and fixed it right away. The cook did a great job with my dietary restriction (gluten-free), I was very content.

But the true heroes were the porters who carried all the gear and food supplies up the mountain, they did the hardest work. And at the end of the trek, they sang the Kilimanjaro song and danced for us.. and they were still smiling! What a great attitude!

Overall, a great experience and highly recommended.
