Review of Kariakoo Market

This is a huge local market, where you can buy fruits & vegetables, spices, handcrafts and lots of other different stuff. It is great if you have some time left in Daressalam. Keep in mind its very crowded, even though of course not dangerous.

This market is vital to local Tanzanians. It is the biggest market in East Africa and a huge variety of products are being sold such as vegetables, fruits, spices, meat, household products, etc. It is worth it just to wander around and see if there is anything that interests you. Everyone is willing to bargain a bit as long as you are in a buying mood and perhaps want more of what they have to offer.
Be sure to bring local Tanzanian shillings or the equivalent about of USD. In many situations, they prefer USD since their currency fluctuates quite a lot. Make sure you know the exchange rate if you are taking USD.

It is always amazing to visit local markets and make your senses hear, smell and see where the locals hop. You may find something you want to buy as well.

Wholesale
A lot of goodies be ready to bargain do not just buy .
Not scary as it seems just an advice get a local as they hardly speak English.
It was very useful going with my driver...
I wished I went there earlier before heading to the malls.

Tanzania is a friendly place with friendly people and visiting Kariakoo Market was no exception.Took about an hour shopping,as there is stuff everywhere.Locals speak swahili and few know english its better to go with someone who knows the language or you will pay double as some take advantage. We found a friendly taxi driver who helped us.The market tends to be crowded and its best to blend in dressing and move around with little personal stuff.Better to buy and drop at your hotel..I enjoyed the experience though and would do it again soon.
