“Beautiful Riad, Great service”
Reviewed 14 August 2012

We spent a wonderful time in the Riad El Mansour.
It is a typical Moroccan Riad, beautifully decorated and traditional.
The team manged by Abdess is particularly efficient and trustful.
We highly recommend this Riad and hope to be back with friends

Room Tip: we were upgraded to the amber room.

We had phoned ahead and met by Abdess, from booking (over the phone) we were staying at at an all in-inclusive hotel in Marrakesh but really wanted the Riad experiance. We stayed at the Tikida Rui, but also wanted to experince a tradional Riad.

Abdess met us in El Farna and walked us to the Riad. It was amazing walking through the door into absolute paradise. We were blown away. To say we gasped at its beauty is an understatement!!
Our every whim was met on arrival, the rooms were so luxurios, and the care and attention to detail was second to none! Fresh fruit in the rooms, Morrocan sweet pastries, and the en-suite bathroom, where do I start, just beautiful. It was the whole experiance I had hoped for on reading the trip-advisor reviews.

We stayed in the suite, it was like being transported into another time, after the OMG of the room, including the attention to detail, we didn't think it could get even better, but it did!! They even had thought to put an I-pod docking station in the room!!

Abdess gave us the welcome meeting and answered any questions we had with such a detailed map of the soukes, where to go, and what to see. He patienly answered our our enquiries!

We had the most amazing evening meal ever, how big can a tagine be?? Nothing was too much trouble, we were treated like royalty. We finally went to bed stuffed and happy!
OMG, then came breakfast, we wern't sure we had room after the nights before meal, but it was equally so good we made room!
If you stay here please take up the Riads offer of Mustafa's service to take you to the Atlas mountains. His English is superb and he answered all our questions about the Morracan culture. It was the best day out of our holiday.

I can honestly say hand on heart, when we said our goodbyes to return to our all inclusive hotel, we were sad to leave. We were treated like family, felt like royalty, and felt the most welcome guests ever.

It made our holiday, I am looking to re-book, it was romantic, amazing, and just, well, awesome!! They were even so kind to take the time and email the recipies for the amazing food they served us!

If you want the real experience, this is soooooo the place to stay, breathtaking and attentive. Thank you Abdess, Wadi & Mustufa, you made our holiday.

A lovely review. thank you!

I am pleased you considered the experience of both an all inclusive and also a traditional Riad.
The two are very different as I am sure you found!

With our excursions with Mustapha our driver we ensure he will answer and questions you have about Marrakech and the area you are in, and he stops as you wish for photo opportunities.

I spent four nights in this charming Riad.
The place is definitely what I was looking for a nice relaxing holiday. Rooms and interiors are very well decorated, especially the bathroom.
Abdess runs this place making you feel like at home.
The nicest surprise was a delicious dinner in the terrace room when we just arrived and we had the pleasure to have a "private" new years eve dinner that was just sublime. If this place has five dots, the food deserve at least six.
I would raccomend it with out any doubt.
The only very little concern is that you have to get used to the intricate little alleys of the Medina to go back home, but Abdess will give you clear indications to don't get lost :)

Myself and my husband stayed here in July last year. It was AMAZING!! The staff were so friendly and the Riad so beautiful and comfortable. Our cooking lesson with Latifa was one of the highlights of our holiday - I still regularly cook the dishes! It was a real haven of tranquility from the hustle and bustle of the medina. We loved sitting on the roof terrace at night by sunset with a bottle of wine. The food was absolutely delicious especially Latifas salads and chicken tagine. If we come back to Marrakech then we will definitely stay here again!

We chose this riad based on previous reviews and our desire to be in a riad rather than a modern hotel. I'm glad we prebooked a driver from the airport through Abdess and Wadi who were both excellent hosts ( we mustnt forget the other lovely staff too!) as we would never have found it on our own! The only negative comment we had read was about children in the lanes. Let's be honest, the Riad is in a residential area - you must expect children - they were polite and charming - as were the vast majority of the people we met in Marrakech. The atmosphere all across the city was buzzing and vibrant and we always felt safe wherever we were at any time of day or night. The locals around the riad were very friendly. The riad itself is beautiful. As others have said - an oasis of calm from the first greeting - refreshments, a tour of the riad and tips for a great break. Like others we chose to eat in the riad on the first night to avoid the need to find somewhere - food was lovely. Breakfasts were fabulous and kept us going most of the day. We stayed in the Amber Suite - sublime. Fresh fruit, dried fruit and nuts, water and room service twice a day. The plunge pool and sunbathing on the terrace were a great daily break between daytime madness and night time adventure. I cant speak highly enough of Riad El Mansour and the staff. My only suggestion would be to have a fridge in the room to keep water chilled (it was 50 degrees when we were there) but Wadi was very happy to provide ice for us on request.

As for Marrakech - you may find our experiences and learning helpful.

Trust Abdess and Wadi for directions and recommendations. Ignore young lads who tell you you are going the wrong way...
Prepare for your culture senses to be pounded from all directions. The people are friendly and the main parts are relativley clean but there is poverty and dirt also clearly visible. dont let this put you off, the people are lovely.
If you are lost - dont worry about it - wander until you recognise somewhere or eventually admit defeat and show the map to someone for help. We found shopkeepers much more helpful than police. Try to avoid walking with your map open in your hand - you are saying to the young chancers - come and pretend to be helpful for which there will be a charge.
Check your change if you are paying with larger notes. I bought a fresh orange juice in the square for 4 Dirhams (it is the same at every stall) but he quite blatantly short changed me. My pigeon french and 'look' sorted it - dont be afrid to be quietly assertive.
Haggling in the Souk has to be done but go to a couple of fixed price shops first to get a sense of how much things should cost. Dont feel bad about walking away if you are being asked to pay too much.
You have to try the night time buffets in the main square but make sure they only deliver what you order, they will come to your tables with stuff you havent ordered. As with most unwelcome advances be firm but polite - they get the message.
We took a chance going to a terrace restaurant down a lane one evening - we were the only ones eating. In the UK thats a warning sign. In Marrakech there is so much competition, the chances are a restaurant down a quieter lane wont be busy. We had a lovely meal withy drinks for 2 for less than £15
