The "big square" is a fascinating, bustling center of the Medina, especially at night. Food is everywhere, including oranges, kebabs and other goodies. There are snake charmers, musicians, dressed up characters, monkeys and , yes, handout seekers. It is safe, just watch for pickpockets. Restaurants surround the "square", but not the best in Marrakech.

During the day it is a very open space. Odd snake charmers and stalls selling orange juice. Far better to visit at night when all of the food stalls are set out and the atmosphere is brilliant. Many families are there late in to the night, so you feel safe.

The central square in Marrakech is alive with activity all day and well into the night. In the evening, food stalls abound. During the day and into the evening, merchants sell all sorts of products and souvenirs. It is important to bargain and that can be part of the fun. There are also some unique attractions, such as the snake charmers. The square is a great place to get some food and watch the spectacle.

There is no way to be in Marrakech and miss Jemaa el Fna. Quite the opposite - it's an unmissable place where one should see its busy crowds, smell its scents, hear its sounds and taste its flavours. My heart was won by incredibly delicious orange juice.

This square is like no where else I have ever seen. Hectic at time but you soon get used to it. A nice mix of tourists and local Marrakeshi people. Make sure you do at least one evening there as the sun sets as you an watch it jump into action.
