Description: N full heart of the medina where merges tradition and modernity, an authentic restaurant has several years of perfectly preserved history. DAR ESSALAM is the first moroccan restaurant in Marrakech since 1952, it's here that the Hitchcock's movie "the man knew too much " was filmed. Come and taste our refined moroccan cuisine.

We visited here after a full day tour in Marrakech booked through our hotel (Thomson)
Hidden gem in the city, food was lovely and staff very friendly, the venue from the outside looks a bit questionable to say the least at the moment but the inside we beautiful! Definitely worth a visit, not too sure on prices as it was all included as part of our tour (except the drinks) 25 Dirham for a Coke which isn't bad I don't think.

If you fancy being surrounded by under-dressed, overweight and cheap tourist groups, go for it. Such an awe-inspiring, breath taking piece of work in terms of setting. The hand chiseled and most ornate rooms I have seen, alas, the rest was anything but pleasing to the eye. Service was harried, bread was cold and chewy, black olives tasted old, tajine was tough and more fat and bone than meat, the briouattes were cold and rubbery. The only thing that went down well was the Medallion Rose. For which we had to ask for an ice bucket too. It could have been the most romantic "Dinner for Two" only place in all of Marrakech, instead, the floodgates have opened, the busses unloaded and one minute the restaurant is full, the next it's empty because 1 group got up and left. Ambience killer. Concentrate on quality, not quantity !! Live entertainment is nice, but way too long. Need to offer more breaks in between sets as we barely could talk because it was so loud. I am always weary of such places when I do not see a single local diner. For obvious reasons.

This restaurant has very good reviews...but frankly is a bit of a tacky tourist trap. Never seen such small tajines and dishes. The space could be nice, but needs sprucing up. If you want a real moroccan restaurant, go to one on the Hivernage or Gueliz! On the whole, this was a very disappointing experience !!!

Located on a street that leads to Jema el Fna square, beautiful dinning hall, attentive staff, live performances which had ups and downs (highlight was a player who combined traditional Moroccan instrument with contemporary melodies - especially country/western sounds), dinner was delicious, we opted for the menu (entree, main course, dessert, coffee/tee, 250 drh, see pics) but you have additional charges for certain main courses (for our menu we took salads and briouates, tagine with honey almonds and dry raisins (+25 drh per person is additional charge), pastilla with vegetables and cheese, rice with cold milk and cinnamon for desert -- all of it was lovely (except for some briouates)), wine (red) Medallion was lovely, price was considerably higher that throughout the Marrakech, but still I believe you should give it a try since this particular establishment has long history and provides memorable Moroccan night.
