I have every intention of returning to Fez to stay at Riad Laaroussa again. The staff were extremely accommodating, the riad itself is gorgeous and enchanting. The views are stunning, the food was amazing, everyone who works there is so incredibly warm and goes out of their way to make sure you are comfortable and you have everything you need. I have a severe peanut allergy and they made sure the entire staff was alerted and let me look around the kitchen myself to make sure there were no oils or anything that I might be allergic to. We (3 American women in their 20's) were fortunate enough to be visiting in the summer while the owners were there with their children. They are incredibly lovely and fun to chat with. I can assure you that this riad lives up to every other glowing review on here.
Although I had been warned (by Moroccans) that Fez could be a little dodgy, I never felt uncomfortable. The riad arranged a walking guide (Mohammad aka Momo) to take us around the medina and he listened to exactly the type of things we wanted to see and didn't try to pressure us to shop or do anything we hadn't planned to do. Please be advised that we happened to be visiting on the day of the Muslim celebration of Eid al-Adha so there were very few people walking around the medina while we were there. I know that it can get quite busy on normal days, as all medinas do.
I would recommend making sure that you book a day for yourself to just lounge around this riad while visiting Fez. The hammam is definitely worth doing. Be sure to eat dinner on the roof. They let guests hang out in the kitchen with them while they make the meals for free. If you're there during the appropriate season, spending an afternoon by the pool is incredibly relaxing.
Be sure to read the history of the riad and the community involvement of the owners in the brochure of your room.
