“Amazing Holiday”
Reviewed 14 September 2012

We had such an amazing holiday here. The staff were amazing, the room was always spotless after the maids had finished, they made patterns with the bed sheets, towels, etc, folded clothes, organised my makeup! Brilliant!

The food was good, especially the pancakes which my boyfriend loved!

At the airport you do get hassled a bit, but make sure you find a way of getting to the hotel before you arrive, as the porters will try to get you in a different taxi, luckily the rep saw what was going on with us, and prevented it.

Overall an amazing holiday, if you go, ask for a sea view room, preferably one with a pool view too, it was huge and a lovely view and room. Well worth any extra money!

Room Tip: We were in 3004, try to be in this block, or any sea view!

As a family of 3 adults we stayed at the Riu Tikida Dunas 31/08/12 to 13/09/12.

On arrival at Agadir airport check-in is very slow and laborious, make sure you have your landing card filled in and ready for security. As previous reviewers have stated unless you have problems with handling your cases ignore the requests of porters outside to essentially carry your cases less than 10 mtrs to your awaiting coach transfer.

The transfer time to hotel was about 25 mins, dont be put off by the 3rd world type backstreets on the way to the hotel, after all this is North Africa not Monaco.

Arrival at the hotel about 11.15am we were warmly greeted by staff and a few members of the animation team with a welcome drink. Our room we were told would be ready for 13.00 so we were all given the obilgatory black all-inclusive wrist band and told to enjoy the facilities till our room was ready. We went for a look round and a bite to eat and first impressions were very good.

Went back to reception at 13.00 and the room was now ready . TIP ! Normally you will be only given 1 swipe card for the room which operated electrics, keyless door entry and air-con. As we were a family of 3 adults I asked and received 2 extra cards, make sure you get your FREE barrel and key for the safety deposit box and towel cards. Our cases were delivered by the porter about 15 mins later.

The room no 5208, we had asked for a high-floor and seaview room and I was not disappointed.
The room was spacious, high standard of cleanliness with an ample balcony and probably one of the best views overlooking the promenade, beach and sea with views of the coastline right round to the marina and harbour. Breathtaking !. The beds were a little hard but we were told that if you require a soft mattress just to ask. The air-con was adequate and will only work when balcony door is closed and swipe card is inserted.

We mainly stopped around the pool area (of which there are 3) with plenty of sunbeds but alas not enough parasols so if you need some shade during the day when it gets into the 30's you need to be down with your towels before 8 - 8.30am. There is a blind eye turned to the "no reservation of sun-beds" rule and the beds are a little tired but adequate.

Breakfast was a oridinary affair with the usual continental, english, cereals bread croissants and fruit on offer. TIP ! Insist on fresh-cooked eggs, pancakes etc by the chef as those pre-cooked on the hotplates are only luke-warm. The hotel is addressing this as I spoke to the head waiter and general manager regarding this.

Lunch (which we dont do) was available from midday right through to about 17.30 at the pool-bar restaurant with plenty on offer - hot food, salads fruit and cakes plus wine if you like.

Dinner between 19.00 and 22.00 in the agadir was ok, plenty of choice but repeated weekly. We sat in the same place most nights and our waiter Saad was very friendly and helpful. Thank you Saad ! We tried the Morrocan themed restaurant one night of our stay but preferred the main restaurant.

This hotel has a fine indoor pool with a proper state of the art gym and beauty parlour, my daughter tried the hammam then the Argan massage and was very impressed. Free wifi in reception and no need to bring your towels as they are free and can be exchanged every day on production of old towels or towel cards.

Now, previous reviewers have mentioned bar staff, waiters giving preference to the French. Not once did I encounter this and I must say this hotel has the best staff I have ever witnessed, in particular Hassan and Moloud at the pool bar and Driss one of the finest bartenders I have ever met. The animation team are friendly, funny and not too pushy if you just want to relax.

The weather was cloudy with the dreaded sea-mist for a couple of days but rest of the holiday was bright sunshine which tended to break through the clouds after 10am.

To conclude, a very good enjoyable holiday with on a few minor niggles.

Would we return again ? most definitely.

Room Tip: If you have requested a sea view block 5000 is the one to go for or block 3000

I have traveled many times but this was my first time going on a package holiday, which was with Thompson. So ill go through everything from the start to good tips to bare in mind!

Starting out flights were great and the Thompson staff were brilliant, our rep Elias was great he provided all the information we needed without intruding on your holiday like some reps do.

AIRPORT ARRIVING: Agadir airport is a very slow process especially if you land straight after another flight, the passport control guys seem to read every line and page of your passport, but once you get pass that its OK. The airport is relatively small so finding your way out the front where you find your coach is relatively easy.

TIP: When you come out of arrivals do not let the guys come over and take your bags (unless really needed) they literally walk your bags 10m and want tips and will stand staring at you with their hands out, by this point you still have not converted your money into Moroccan dirham therefore leaving you in an awkward situation, so just say no thank you!

HOTEL: Airport to hotel is only a 25min journey so not too bad at all, once you arrive at the hotel you will leave your bags at the front door, dont worry they are fine there. We were greeted by the animation team which straight away were entertaining, we arrived in the morning so had to wait till 1pm to get our room. The rooms are very nice, spacious and have everything you need, the maid we had was fantastic and sh would make designs out the towels, toilet roll, bed sheets and even my partners night wear so we were impressed overall with the room and cleaning.

TIP: if arriving in the morning walk with poolside wear in your carry on luggage so you can change and start your holiday immediately by the pool till your room is ready.

FOOD: I was a bit skeptical after reading some of the reviews about the food, but soon forgot them as i am a person who have eaten foods from around the world and have no problems i have a stomach lining made of titanium :) so going on this i wasn't worried, the food during the day was fairly reasonable very wide selection of food for which most changes daily, you have a big choice throughout the day, however god almighty please stay away from the cheese and cheese dish's like the pastas and some pizzas, i am a person who loves cheese and eats many types of cheeses and i can tell you their cheese was not right!! Dinner time again i was impressed with the food some very nice tasty food and very big selection.....HOWEVER! On our last day myself, my partner, the couple we met and another family we met became ill after coming back home and going to the docs we found out we had Campylobacter, a strain of bacteria that gives you some nasty food poisoning, which we still have! And we were all eating different dishes every night which as a chef left me to question the hygiene practices in the kitchen.

TIP: I have seen people on here complaining about the limited choice of food, its on a weekly rotation so if you are there for 2 weeks try not to be greedy and help yourself to 3 different dishes in one night it will be there the next week or even day. Otherwise you will end up eating the same food.

DRINKS: Straight away do not be fooled when it is advertised that alcohol is imported its NOT except for martini! The alcohol did the job but i can say it was as enjoyable as it should have been, the beer had a very cheap and crispy taste, the vodka is called iganoff which i believe accounted for probably about 90% of people stomach pains, although i heard some people complain that the cocktails were pre made they were actually not that bad at all, the mojitos were brilliant, pina coladas were great, daiquiris were also nice, and if they were a bit sweet just get a cup of water and dilute a bit....simple. But as mentioned take an easy with the vodka and if you drink other spirits ask for a small shot of it to make judgement for yourself.

ENTERTAINMENT: During the day their is a team of guys and girls called the Animation team, they basically organise daily activities for both the young and the old, same activities everyday but its fun and they really do keep you entertained and are very friendly. At night there is always a stage show some really good and entertaining some not so much, but its all to do with your taste, its not west end standards but it still makes for a great night and if you can appreciate the hours and effort the guys make then you will make the most of your night and enjoy it.

STAFF: About 97% of the staff were great from the cleaners to the barman, where people got that they favour the french i have no idea, if your rude and snobby towards hem maybe they may not be as favourable to you but neither would i! They did expect any tips or anything like that, but i still gave tips out at the end to the few who i thought made me feel like a special guest throughout the holiday even though i wasn't tipping, i even tipped the room cleaner £20 because she was so friendly, did a great job every time and never stole my iphone, ipad, money or underwear :D.........HOWEVER! The shop opposite reception inside the hotel, the women who works the till in there is stealing, lying, short changing cow! she would short change you everytime and many guest complained about it, at one point she short changed me by about £14 but the minute you walk out the shop you have pocketed it and are trying to rob her!! Ive watched banged up abroad too many times to even get in a stealing argument in an arab cultured country, not good! But please count your money before leaving!

SUMMARY: All round was an alright holiday i would never go for more than a week, you are really confined to the hotel as Agadir is not really an interesting place, and watch yourself carefully if you go to the big market, they are not quite like the markets in turkey, they are worst by far. As mentioned food is good but i watch for food poisoning as everyone we met and kept in contact with had campylobacter which is nasty to deal with, you will aslo get the poops (trying to be nice) alot dont be alarmed its just the food, as i said before as well alcohol is a bit dodge but does the job. DO NOT GO INTO THE NIGHT CLUBS, i have been to many nightclubs around the world but the papaya or something like that night club was ROHYPNOL.COM not to mention when i went to the toilet there was a couple of guys jumping around the toilet with a taser!! To be honest as well your best giving away all your left over dirham to the staff as tips as its a real hassle on your departure from changing money to getting on the plane! But you really dont need any money unless your going out on excursions etc.

Im generally an easy going guy who accepts many things and have high tolerance for many siutations so i hope thats gives you a better idea about my review, i hope it helps.
