We love water falls and Mesa Falls did not disappoint. The drive to the falls is simply stunning - beautiful, scenic area. A special bonus for us was the fact that it was not overrun by tourists like the falls in Yellowstone. The walk to the falls is an easy trek on a wooden pathway. Highly recommend.

The falls are beautiful and not crowded, so be sure to make the trip. The visitors center is a wonderfully restored building worth exploring. This is a side trip you will not regret.

Wow. You travel through all 50 states over the decades and start to think you can no longer be surprised. Been there, seen/done that. Then you happen upon Upper Mesa Falls, 114 feet high, 200 feet wide, thundering away in alpine splendor adjacent to an easily accessible trail with plenty of overlooks, and you are very happy to be wrong! Located on Henrys Fork, a tributary to the Snake, named after an early 19th century fur trader, you wonder why these thunderous, superlative-defying falls are not more widely celebrated. No matter. Give yourself a break from the stop-and-go traffic of nearby Yellowstone. Gift yourself an hour or more with these mesmerizing falls. You will be so glad you did!

We accidentally found this bypass when we stopped at the Idaho visitor center and got and old fashioned map. It parallels Hwy 20 to West Yellowstone with a short 8 mile detour to bypass highway. The Falls are amazing to see. The views are fantastic. Be sure to go to both the Big Falls and Lower Falls viewpoints. Both Falls has a paved path for wheelchairs view.
