“Family Christmas Vacation”
Reviewed 1 October 2013 for a stay in December 2011

The Villa is imaculate, it's huge... My mother, brother, sister, girlfriend and my 2 cousins, had more than enough room. the place is awesome. LOVE the jetski. Probably the nicest setting on Roatan, a calm quiet cove, no boat traffic. Dive shop nearby, private beach, I can go on and on. Super thanks to the staff who made the stay so memorable. Two Thumbs WAY UP!

“Spectacular View-amazing property but BUG infested!”
Reviewed 27 July 2013 for a stay in July 2013

The property is beautiful, the staff is great, we love the views. The negative side is the bugs and the fear of using our air conditioner for the electric bill! The unknown of the electric cost kept us praying for high winds! I would suggest renting a car if you want to do any last minute changes to your itinerary. We felt like we were putting the staff out when we asked for a ride that wasn't not prescheduled.

Dear Mrs. M,

Casa Vista Verde has no records of a reservation or transaction from or with you, but I will assume you were a guest of another party based on your indicated dates of stay. At Casa Vista Verde we strive to deliver excellent vacations for all our guests, and I’m sorry we weren't able to do so for you.

Casa Vista Verde is not "bug infested". I was surprised to see a review titled this way when there was no mention of this from the group during your indicated stay dates, in their guest book comments, or when I spoke to the reservation holder's husband during checkout.

Roatan is a mostly undeveloped tropical island (this is a significant attraction for many visitors), so some insect presence can be expected. The doors and windows at Casa Vista Verde are screened, and they are quite effective at keeping insects out of the house. The property and villa are treated inside and out as necessary (or more frequently upon guest request) to prevent insects from bothering our guests.

At Casa Vista Verde, we charge actual cost for electric use because there are a number of amenities (such as walk-in refrigerator/freezer, outdoor spa, central AC, and extensive exterior lighting) which are available for guest enjoyment, but can use substantial amounts of power. If you were present at checkin, you would have heard an explanation of this, along with our standard offer to provide a reading at any time during a stay upon request.

At Casa Vista Verde, roughly half our guests rent cars, and we are also happy to arrange rental pickup and delivery at the villa on their behalf if they so choose. We have a Toyota 4Runner available for guest transport, however our insurance does not cover guests driving, so usage requires a staff driver. Guest requests are our top priority and we are sure to have transportation available any time it is prescheduled, however impromptu requests may incur a short delay if our driver is not on the property.

At Casa Vista Verde, we make every effort to keep our guests satisfied, and promptly respond to guest requests and concerns. I also speak to all our guests at checkout to verify their satisfaction. If these questions had been raised during their stay or at checkout by the party holding the reservation for these dates, we would have dealt with them immediately.

Sincerely,
Asa Davis

“Beautiful and Luxurious - Total Pampering"”
Reviewed 30 June 2013 for a stay in June 2013

Casa Vista Verde combines the private villa experience with that of a four star hotel. The home is immaculately kept. Service outstanding. You will have your own concierge service in the form of Cass Williams, the outstanding property manager. A private driver. Cook, laundry and housekeeper. Beach groomer and gardener. Night armed security guard. Gated private estate with private beach and dock, including a lovely cabana, shady hammock area, beach accessible fridge, restroom, indoor and outdoor shower by the water. Kayaks, snorkel gear, etc. If you're a diver, the neighboring PADI shop (Subway Watersports) will take up the pampering where Casa Vista Verde left off, managing your gear for the duration, pick up and drop off at your own private dock. They also provide two local cell phones for use, programmed with staff numbers and you can use them to call each other too. WIFI works great. Nice infinity salt water pool. Beautiful view.

The only reason I can't give five stars is that there were a few malfunctions during our stay (nothing that came close to ruining our time). And also, they conducted some mildly disruptive maintenance during our stay, which we tolerated but did not prefer. Very minor.

If you want to be treated like royalty and like the idea of a staff present to cater to your every need, this place is for you. The entire CVV team is attentive, thoughtful and kind. I would highly recommend this villa to the "full service" traveler.

Recommendations/Notes:
1. You don't need a rental car. Let Raul drive you at the reasonable rate.
2. Factor in all variable costs when evaluating your budget. This is not "all inclusive" in nature. Many things, including electricity usage, are charged a la carte. For ten days, our bill over and above the rental fee was about $2300 for six people and we did not use any watercraft or have Nolvia prepare any dinners. This was groceries, liquor, electricity, etc. Not a complaint, but be cognizant of this fact.
3. Keep yourself continuously coated in 99% DEET. All the time. Period. If you do not heed this warning, you will look like a pox victim due to noseeums / sand fleas as well as mosquitoes. I carried a small bottle in my pocket the entire trip and I was the hero a few times when my friends started getting bitten. This is a real problem on Roatan, but with vigilant application of DEET, you can emerge victorious. :)
4. Take advantage of the kayaks or small skiff and snorkel out to the reef in front of the house. It's the best snorkeling some of us had ever seen in our lives. If so inclined, get certified and dive Roatan. Amazing.
5. This house is 45 minutes from "town." It's 20 minutes or so to gas, groceries, ice, etc. Privacy and scenic setting come at the price of distant proximity to the hub of activity.
6. The walk down to the beach and cabana involves a very beautiful, very long series of stone steps. Which must be climbed in reverse, obviously, to get back home. It's quite a workout! If you have anything big to carry up or down, just ask and either Raul or Naptali will handle it for you. They can also run you down by vehicle if you have a disability or just prefer not to hike.
7. Between the delicious and healthy food, activity rich agenda, stair climbing regimen - the healthiest vacation I've ever taken. Lost weight, even!

Have fun!

Dear CG,
Thank you for your comprehensive review! Regrettably, we did have some service issues during your stay. We had an outboard motor fail just prior to your arrival, and the replacement did not arrive with the full complement of parts required to get the skiff back into service. In the interim, we made arrangements with Subway to make sure our guests were able to use their skiff for nearby snorkeling excursions. Second, we had a lightning strike nearby one evening, which knocked out our internet service until we could locate the problem and replace the network switch the next afternoon. Third, we had a drain pipe fail which allowed water to back up into the beach cabana, and replacing this pipe did take an afternoon of work near the beach. In all cases, we tried to keep the intrusion on your stay to a minimum, and please understand these issues by no means represent a typical guest experience at Casa Vista Verde.
Casa Vista Verde does not advertise or represent as an all inclusive vacation – but for the convenience of our guests, we permit billing for outside activities to be processed through the villa. In all cases, receipts are provided and we only bill as actually charged, but things like scuba diving, instruction, provisioning, and dolphin encounters can add significantly to an invoice.
We fog the grounds weekly with a botanical-based, biodegradable deterrent to keep sand flies from bothering our guests. However, this this is not the norm on Roatan, particularly in areas that are not inhabited or developed. We supply both sunscreen and insect repellent for guests upon arrival for their excursions around the island, and more is available for the asking during your stay.
As you note, the snorkeling, diving, and activities make Roatan a great place for a memorable vacation, although one that can be more physical than the norm. I think most of our guests would agree with you that it’s worth it!

Sincerely,
Casa Vista Verde Staff
