We arrived at the Barcelo a few days ahead of our Guatemalan country tour and were picked up by the Barcelo's complimentary shuttle from the airport. We opted for the executive floor, staying over the Christmas holidays, selecting the Premium Level Duplex Suite. It was a two storey suite, with a bathroom, living room, TV, computer desk area, minibar, etc on the first level. Climbing the circular staircase, the second level had a king bed ( with comfortable pillows and bedding) a second bathroom, another TV, room safe, ironing board ad iron and some seating. The room was really a bit too large for a hotel stay for just two people. We primarily stayed upstairs, barely using the first floor. Access to the suite was available from both the 11th and 12th, with access to the elevator only from the 11th floor.
Wifi was freely available throughout the whole hotel, and worked well.
The executive lounge for those staying on the premium levels was open throughout the day with a comfortable place to sit, or to have a snack or soft drink, bottled water, coffee, etc. All are complimentary. After 7 pm, drinks including wine, beer and spirits as well as soft drinks, etc and small hot dishes were available. Again complimentary. Access to the executive lounge is only accessible with premium level room keys as is the separate elevator to the executive floors.
Within the hotel, other dining options were available. Strikers Sports Bar is one options, where pub-like food and drinks are served, and the menu is quite large. The main dining room offers buffet style eating, which was also delicious and very varied with many options.
There are also many small shops on the main floor with local crafts and one which sells some possible needed pharmacy items including toothpaste, etc. There is also a higher-end jade shop with some lovely pieces and a Zacapa Rum establishment. Clark Tours has a desk in the lobby if you wanted to book a sisghtseeing tour.
Also conveniently located within the hotel on the main floors were an American Airline office and a United Airline office, both manned with airline staff who can assist with any flight requirement including convenient printing of your boarding passes, saving you some possible time at the airport. The hotel itself is conveniently located close to the airport. If you have a room with a view of Agua volcano, you can also watch the planes landing. You may also hear some planes taking off as well. Just a couple in the middle of the night.
The staff were extremely friendly, and very eager to accommodate any need you may have.
We would definitely recommend this hotel. Can't beat the price for what you get..
