Maya Mountain Lodge provides a serene, lush setting outside of San Ignacio with a simple, rustic feel. The Trogon Room was clean and simply decorated with a thatched roof but was contained for air conditioning at night. We awoke to birds each morning by 6:30am. The walking path (more climbing) was a nice hike in the morning or evening. Yummy, authentic dinners that were good for us with even locals drumming and dancing one night for us.
We had 3 wonderful, relaxing days intertwined with adventure excursions of Zunanitech - Mayan Ruins, Cave Branch - zip line & cave tubing about an hour away. We had booked the excursions through another guide. The dip in the pool was the cherry on top of our sundae at the end of an exciting day. Another day was spent at the market in San Ignacio with lots of local color and fair.
We were so glad we decided to split our time between the jungle & the beach. We would have missed so much without this hidden oasis in the jungle. The team at the Lodge was exceptionally friendly & accomadating from start to finish. Thank you, Bart & Elmer for making us feel at home.
