We intended to spend a quiet Sunday afternoon, eating lunch and swimming in the pool, no one told us that swimming in the pool was extra even for paying guests! The staff was unfriendly and the food was mediocre to say the least. I would definitely not recommend this resort to Belizeans, they treated us as if they were doing us a favor by accommodating us. Very bad experience.

Rumors staff were very friendly and ready to help in any way, but when it came to correcting the air conditioning, shower, and toilet in our room that was another matter. We stayed for five night and repeatedly asked them to fix our AC which never got below 78F or 26C--mind you out side temp was 100-107F. The ironic thing is we were the only ones staying there for four out of our five nights. The other item to note is that their pool is open to everyone in the area on the weekends and holidays which means if you are a paying guest you will not find a place to sit or swim unless you are in the pool by 8am and out by 9am. The rest of the day until pool closing is occupied by the locals. This also means that food and drinks are in short supply.
On the positive note, our room and resort facilities were clean.

Frankie M, General Manager at Rumors Resort, responded to this reviewResponded 11 May 2016

We wish to thank our reviewer for their acknowledgment of our staff's friendliness and, indeed, helpfulness as well as our rooms and resort facilities' cleanliness.
I wish to clarify a few points to our prospective guests however. We do take fault at not being able to address the situation with this room's AC as fast as our guests would have liked. The AC unfortunately ran low on frion and had a minor problem with the AC fan which impeded it from blowing at its normal speed, during the reviewer's stay in that room. I may add that immediately after getting the guest's complaint, I personally grabbed a ladder and climbed to add some frion to the condenser (something I've made sure to be able to do so as to be able to address these problems at any given time) however, I regret not being able to get our technician to come in on time to fix the problem with the air conditioner's fan. Our technician was out of town and all other contacts he had left us were unavailable. It was the weekend and not very much else that could be done in terms of getting any parts for it anyway.
We attempted to solve the problem by offering the guests to be moved to another room but they refused as they would not go through the extra trouble of moving and for not wanting to give up the king size bed which that room features (apparently this was more important to them than a cooler room).
As for the shower and toilet, again as the manager, I lose no time in attempting to fix any sudden problems with our facilities as soon as the complaint is made, especially if I cannot get the technician to come in on time. So I fixed the toilet leak (the seal on the cistern where the water main connects to the kit inside had given in, these things are prone to wear and tear with age, so I replaced it with a spare kit I had in stock). That problem was fixed right away (which he fails to mention).
The shower problem (again these things are prone to wear and we try to constantly keep a watch on them and tightening things wherever needed). The shower faucet screw had come lose from the many turns it had been subject to from guests passed and now only spun around without turning the shower on. Again, I immediately grabbed a screwdriver and I tightened it back, the shower problem was fixed.
As for our swimming pool, it is a fact that during the slow season (which we are in at the moment) we, as do all other resorts in town, open our facilities to the locals, who by the way are also paying guests, in order to make up for the loss of revenues from the decrease in international guest travel. Food and drinks are not in short supply, however, they may take a little longer to get given the increase amount of orders.
Another clarification, the reviewer was not the only guest around, it was a slower than normal week, but we had other guests in other rooms which were on tours during the day and some go out to eat in town at night.
We wish to inform any future guests that we take pride in offering a friendly and helpful service to all our guests. Their comfort and satisfaction is our main priority and we go out of our way to ensure they have a great time staying with us. If there are any problems with any facilities in your room, please do not hesitate to let us know so we can fix it, we live on site and are available at all times to address your needs. If we cannot fix the problem immediately, we will try by all means to compensate for the inconvenience, either by offering you a change of room, an upgrade, or whatever it is that would enhance your experience.

Great staff that give great service. Beautiful pool with delicious poolside drinks. Also set up a great cave tubing tour for us through Go Maya. The restaurant also serves great food! Try the curried shrimp!

My friend and I stayed for only two nights while on our travels. We had the most amazing time there and really enjoyed everything about the place. The pool is amazing. The rooms are great. The people are wonderful. The food and drinks are great.

Also check out the Go Mayan cave tubing tour company right out of the hotel for an amazing day!

As you read the other reviews, everyone raves about Rosy, who works the days at the front desk. Everything people say is spot in. Rosy is awesome and will make your stay memorable. The hotel is in a great location, easy $5US cab to town. It's safe, clean, and all the necessary amenities are there. The free bottled water was a huge plus, as was having a fridge in the room. The pool area is cleaned religiously and is a great spot to spend the late afternoon. The staff is very friendly and makes you feel welcomed at this family owned hotel. The onsite restaurant/bar is fine with fair prices and standard food offerings. Eating onsite is convenient but we enjoyed going to town for the evenings for diversity. The Wifi was very stable and the AC kept everything comfortable. The other great thing is their sister tour company, Go Maya offers all your excursion needs and Rosy will set everything up. She was great with emailing me back on questions ahead of time and helping make everything run smoothly during our stay. Definitely use them for your trips. Go to ATM cave. Go to Tikal with Wilmur. Both are awesome. Stop your search now and book a stay at Rumors, everything you need is right here!
