“Fun at Yumas”
Reviewed 9 March 2012

We stayed at Yumas for 5 nights and had an amazing time, great location, clean and friendly. With the use of 2 kitchen areas plenty of space to cook and eat. Lots of chill areas so great place to meet other travellers and swap stories we met some great people who we are still in touch with. I loved the hammocks on the dock great place to watch the sunrise. The 11pm quiet time is a great idea gives you time to catch up on sleep after a long journey or a full day snorkeling. Having a night watchman checking you in and keeping an eye on things made Yumas feel safe and secure.

Yuma's house was a great place to crash for a few days while checking out caye caulker... It's located on the east side of the island, right in front of the (san pedro express) water taxi dock. The first night there we stayed in a room with twin beds, then we moved into an upper floor room with a double bed. The twin room was bigger and I think the beds (slightly) softer.

There is a kitchen and bathroom facilities on each floor. There are hammocks and tables in the yard (with an outdoor shower) and a private dock (with more - bottomless - hammocks).

The best part is of course the people you meet. Had a great night drinking rum on the dock mixed with fresh coconut water from the trees out front. I'd recommend booking in advance if you can, while we were there (like the little time we spent on the actual premises) Susanne was constantly turning people away - no vacancy.

The rules are the rules, towels & keys require a deposit, quiet time is at 11 and there's no hot water in the shower.

Room Tip: Book in advance

My boyfriend and I stayed two nights at Yuma's in a private room which was just right. We very much enjoyed our stay. Highlights were the courtyard, pier, multiple hammocks, and location. Also we met some of the best people of our trip here! The staff was friendly and helpful and the rules really did help to make the place comfortable. The only down side was that there was no hot water but we survived just fine :) Thanks, Suzanne, for providing such a wonderful getaway!

Susanne, who now owns Yuma's, runs a tight ship. The facility is cleaned twice a day, there are raised wood slated bases set into the showers that add an outdoor touch. Our room had two single beds. Neither mattress was great and they should probably be retired, but they weren't so bad that I felt inclined to complain, my companion didn't bother to mention the spent mattresses to me. All staff, cleaning crew and night watchmen were friendly.
The fenced in courtyard is filled with tables, benches, and hammocks. There are three more hammocks out on the dock that swing beneath a patio cover.
Overall it was clean and quiet, I would stay there again.

Room Tip: For a little more money you can get a private room in the hotel, as opposed to a room with four beds...

To Needlegrl,

Thank you so much for your time to write a review.
I'm happy to read that you enjoyed your time at our house.
I would like to share with you that we are in the process of replacing our mattresses since its indeed time to retire them. We are going to start in the room that you used and it will most likely take us around 6 weeks to make it through the entire house.

Best,
Susanne
